http://immigrationbangkok.com/thai-retirement-visa-2/

Citaat:
Thai Retirement Visa
A Thai retirement visa is available for foreign nationals over 50 years of age who wish to retire in Thailand. This visa can be applied for in Thailand or while overseas, at a Royal Thai Embassy or Royal Thai Consulate. When applied for within Thailand it is officially known as a Non-Immigrant O-Long Stay Visa. When applied for outside of Thailand it is known as a Non-Immigrant OA-Long Stay Visa.

A Thai retirement visa will allow you to stay in Thailand for a period of 1 year (12 months), and it can be renewed annually. There are no limitations on the amount of times you can renew a Thai retirement visa as long as you continue to meet all the visa requirements.

This visa can be applied for as a single or multiple entry visa.

Citaat:
Requirements
To apply for this visa you must be 50 years of age or older.

You must meet at least one of the following:

Have at least 800,000 Thai baht in a Thai Bank account which is in your name. This money must have been cleared in the account at least 2 months prior to making your application.
Or, have a monthly income or pension of at least 65,000 Thai baht.
Or, have an annual income, pension, and money in a Thai bank, which come to a combined total of at least 800,000 Thai Baht.
Important: A Thai retirement visa does not allow you to work in Thailand.
Citaat:
Proof needed

Your annual income or pension must be proven in the form of an affidavit from your foreign embassy or consulate.

To prove that you have sufficient funds in a Thai bank account you must provide the following documentation:

An updated passbook/bank book which is in your name and from a recognized Thai bank.
A letter from the bank clearly stating that at least 800,000 baht was deposited in your account from an overseas source, and has been cleared at least 2 months prior to the date of your retirement visa application.
While it is not common procedure, in some cases you may be required to provide the following:
Police clearance
Medical certificate
Oftewel: "Go home farang kee nok we don't want you!! Go back where you belong! Go back to the West! No money no honey!" Ehehehehehehe xD!

Also this:

https://forum.thaivisa.com/topic/108...on-is-granted/

Citaat:
Thai immigration have announced a major change regarding the financial requirements needed when applying for an extension of stay based on retirement, often referred to as a retirement visa.

Confirmed in police order No. 35/2561 obtained by Thaivisa, foreigners who apply for a retirement extension using the 800k baht in the bank or the combination of income method now need to keep 800k baht in the bank for three months after the extension and 400k baht in the bank after that.

Foreigners must still be able to show the 800k baht in a Thai bank two months before the application for the retirement extension.?

The requirements for a retirement extension according to the new police order are as follows:

(1) Must have been granted a non-immigrant visa (Non-Im)

(2) Must be 50 years of age or over

(3) Must have evidence of having income of no less than THB 65,000 or;

(4) At least 2 months prior to filing date, and at least 3 months after being granted permission, the alien must have fund deposited in a bank in Thailand of no less than THB 800,000. The alien can withdraw the fund 3 months after being granted permission and the remaining balance must be no less than THB 400,00 or;

(5) Must have and annual earning and fund deposited with a commercial bank in Thailand totalling of no less than THB 800,000 until the filing date. The said fund must remain in the account prior to and after the permission is granted and the alien can make a withdrawal under the same conditions as stated in (4).

The new requirements to keep 800k baht in the bank for three months after the retirement visa is granted is effective from 1st March 2019.

The new requirements are likely the result of immigration officials trying to put an end to the practice of visa agents falsifying bank statements for foreigners who do not have enough money to meet the financial requirements needed for a retirement extension.

In October 2018, the then newly appointed immigration chief Surachate Hakpan - known as Big Joke - vowed to crackdown on visa agents who falsify documents for foreigners applying for visas and extensions of stay.

The news comes after Fabulous 103 FM in Pattaya earlier reported that Thai immigration was considering introducing a requirement to force some retirees to show a bank statement with 800,000 baht balance every three months.

While the proposal reported by Fabulous 103 FM could be a separate requirement, Thaivisa believes that it is in fact the requirement detailed in the police order No. 35/2561.
Re-ehehehehehehe xD!

It's nice to see Thailand applying these rules; guess the less fortunate will have to relocate to Cambodia, Vietnam, the Philippines.......... or like this one poster says:

Citaat:
I've "given" Thailand 7 of my retirement years. I can empathize with what your feeling. The Thailand I came to 7 years ago was
way better in 2012 than the Thailand is currently in 2019. It's played out for me, and these new visa rules just lit my fuse to look into
a probable move to Phenom Phenom, Cambodia sooner than later.
That's the new Bangkok for me. It's growing like a weed with less hassles.
Plus, they use the US dollar.

Het huilie-huilie is op dreef:

Citaat:
Personally - and after living in Thailand with the wife and kiddie for the last 3 years - I am looking now at bringing my Thai family back to the UK. I have left already.

My worry for people retiring in Thailand now will be, how long after they see people happy about showing 800k for 6 months or whatever, will it be changed to showing it ALL year, and then raising it again and again - what is your own personal safety threshold ? How long before they change 65k income method to 80k, or beyond.

Life in Thailand appears now only to be plannable for a year at a time, waiting on edge and with bated breath after your visa stamp for the next change of rules.

If you are lucky enough currently to be able to afford everything without an agent - good luck to you. I'd say atleast 95% of all those I know used an agent and are stuffed under these new regulations if cannot get a new agent source. They will all have to leave or overstay - and considering nearly 50% of them have no homes in their home countries, I guess they may choose to overstay.
Citaat:
Would I come back to Thailand ? Maybe, but not currently more than just a holiday to visit wife's family
Yes, come on holiday visa instead as Thailand is not for you........
No money no honey! Ehehehehehehehe xD!

It's gonna be tough indeed. Bad times coming for quite some farangs.
Hier nog een die het opgeeft:

https://forum.thaivisa.com/topic/108...e-usa/page/11/

Citaat:
...
I messed up and married a couple of western gold diggers and they cleaned out most my savings. I have a history of picking the wrong women. That's why my savings is blown.

So, I'm a pretty tough guy. I hooked up with 8 other retirees, some police and some Vietnam veterans and in 2016 trekked to the Mt. Everest Base Camp in Nepal. It about killed me, but I did it.

I'm not one to give up easily, but in all honesty I'm just tired. The whole deal with retiring to Thailand just wore me out. I think I had this illusion I'd come to Thailand, get my retirement visa and just relax and chill. It just did not hold that way.

One person asked me about being stopped by immigration police? When that happened, I asked the officer that spoke excellent English what was going on. There were about 8 of them, they had wireless notebook computers and he told me they have teams that will setup around Bangkok at known farrang apartmen and start checking for Visa violations. I doubt he just made that up, but if no one else has experienced that, maybe I just had bad luck that morning. Bottom line, it did not leave me with a warm and fuzzy.

My next experience was when I went for my first 90 day report. The female IO asked me where my TM30 was. I did not even know what a TM30 was. So she starts in on how my visa can be revoked because I have not had my landlord file a TM30 for me when I rented my first apartment in Bangkok. The IO gave be a bunch of forms, told me to get my landlord to fill them out and come back the next day with them all completed and bring a 5,000 baht fine, or I'd be in trouble. This is not what I considered relaxing.

I called my landlord, she said she never heard of a TM30 before, but met me and filled out the paperwork, only gave me half if the fine and I'm back at immigration again. It's not an easy deal to get from from where I lived up to the immigration offices.

I knew no one in Bangkok except a few people, and none of this was sitting very well for me. I did not know about TV yet.

So I get through all that, and then I start to read about the changes. In all honesty, this is not what I signed up for. My bad, I got it. But with all that, I still met my girlfriend. OMG. I have never been treated with so much affection and love by a western woman. If not for her, I think I would have said enough, and gone somewhere else. So as I have admitted. I missed some important items, the big one medical insurance. Regardless of what one thing finally pushed me to say, I'm done, I need a break, reconsider my decisions, learn from them and move forward. One thing I have appreciated from all who have written, is if I want to live as an expatriate somewhere for sometime, I am wiser to be only 8 or 9 hours away by air then 30 or 40 hours away if I needed USA medical care.

The other is perhaps I'll continue my travels, I do have all the logistics now in place, but unless another reason comes up, just plan to finish out in the USA. A small cabin in the mountains sounds pretty good.

One other person asked me to please let everyone know what I decide. I will do that. I've only been back for less then 48 hours so rest and and getting clear on all this is important.

That's it. I'll make some decisions in the next week, and in a month I'll have a new plan. I do know this much. On the risk analysis, I won't be coming back to Thailand, except as a tourist. I don't think it is right for me.

Once again, good luck and best to you all. I'll drop in on the forum in a few weeks and give an update. Cheers everyone..
