In Noorwegen is het al vanaf 2025. Maar die verplichting daar is eigenlijk bijna overbodig, in januari 2024 werden daar 92,1% aandeel BEV nieuw ingeschreven, en nog steeds stijgende tendens.

Maar - voor iedereen zeer verrassend, een Afrikaans land Ethiopië gaat hun de spits afbijten...

Daarom is er nu een zeer verrassend land dat als eerste de verkoop van auto’s met verbrandingsmotor verbiedt. En nee, dan bedoelen we niet Noorwegen. Daar is het volgend jaar pas verboden. In veel andere landen is het 2030 en sommige grote landen volgen met 2035. Maar er is dus een land waar je NU al geen auto met verbrandingsmotor mag verkopen. Dat land is… Ethiopië! Ethiopia is trying to ban ICE vehicles now.

According to a news update from the parliament, Alemu Sime, the Ethiopian Minister for Transport and Logistics, announced the completion of the nations Logistics Master Plan Monday. Details were scarce, but he has announced that, “a decision has been made, that automobiles cannot enter Ethiopia unless they are electric ones.”

Ethiopian here. Main reason for this is the fact that it's currently struggling with a severe foreign exchange shortage, affecting its ability to import oil and other commodities. Aside from this surprising announcement, lack of foreign currency has also led to a significant push towards enhancing its agricultural productivity and boosting its local production of light manufactured goods.

I imagine the drive towards going 100% electric is largely motivated by this, but not entirely. Ethiopia has been investing massive amounts on its energy infrastructure for the past 20 years (97% of its energy comes from renewables). It's just about to inaugurate its 6500MW hydroelectric plant, poised to be the largest in Africa.

So this shift towards going fully electric, while partly in response to economic pressures, seems to also be part of a broader strategy that's been in the works for a couple decades (although a really ugly conflict recently cost them dearly and precipitated this foreign currency crunch).

The reliability of electricity in some parts still leaves a lot to be desired. Improving the consistency of power supply across the country seems like the next crucial step.

En de reden is niet persé direct milieu, maar om onafhankelijker van aardolie en andere... te worden. Ethiopië heeft quasi 100% groene electriciteit, of minstens 97% volgens die reactie hierboven van Zabumafu, een Ethiopiër.

Vooraleer je dingen post, check de bron waar je dat vandaan haalt.

Op de site van Autoblog kan je terugvinden welke mensen erachter zitten en qua betrouwbaarheid lijkt het me eerder bedenkelijk als ze zich baseren op sites zoals "electrek".

Want die "electrek" site is iets van promotie voor elektrische voertuigen, denk ik, maar ik weet het niet want niks te vinden over welke mensen of organisatie er achter zit. Betrouwbaarheid 0,0 voor mij.

Misschien bij volgende posts wat kritischer zijn over wat je her en der vindt voor je de post plaatst?
