maar weigeren om naar de oorlog te gaan wordt beloont met dood door de kogel. denk daar ook eens over na. ook met de zo beruchte holocaust. weigeren van bevel .............. dood met de kogel/ de keus was aan hen. niet aan U. U kan er over praten. maar er zijn er die het hebben meegemaakt.

In Belgie is de verplichte deelname aan legerdienst al lang afgeschaft. In vele andere Europese landen ook (of was de deelname nooit verplicht). In de USA bestaat het leger ook uit vrijwilligers; al de jongeren die NIET inlijven worden wel met de nek aangekeken door ouderen die wel vrijwilligers waren in Vietnam enz. en die terugkwamen naar de USA met allerlei trauma's, maar ofwel is dat naast de kwestie (welke kwestie ?) ofwel kijkt iedereen liever naast de kwestie dan star erop. Hoedanook, wat het laatste decennium bezig is (USA werd aangevallen door Arabische terroristen waarbij de Twin Towers in New York groetendeels verwoest werden - symbool bij uitstek: de andere doelwitten destijds waren lang niet zo nieuwsbarend of sensationeel), en sloeg terug door zowat alles in moslim-landen te gaan bombarderen: Irak, Pakistan, Afganistan, Lybie. Er wordt allang gewacht om Iran te gaan bombarderen, en eens zal het er wel van komen. De Arabische leiders in vele USA-trouwebondgenotenlanden houden zich wel ver van kommentaar want zij zien hun eigen petroleumproduktie stijgen (waarvoor USA en Europa dan ook zwaar betalen) en zien konkurrenten weggebombardeerd worden. Velen zijn blij, behalve de konsumenten aan de pomp. Is het kortzichtig ? Ongetwijfeld. Kortzichtig vanwege de overblijvende olieproducerende landen want vroeger of later komen ook zij aan de beurt tenminste zolang de USA en Europa het zich denken te kunnen veroorloven overal ter wereld ten oorlog te trekken). Er zullen nog velen sneuvelen en vele moeders zullen wenen. Dood door de kogel, ja, maar welke kogel ? Enemie fire ? Friendly fire ? Bestraffing van insubordinatie ? De dood is de dood, families treuren achteraf, allerlei politieke, sociale, religieuze instellingen hebben weer een kluif om in te bijten.

“Barack Obama heeft ingestemd met het inzetten van de drones”, zei de Amerikaanse minister van Defensie Robert Gates vanavond. Op een persconferentie in het Pentagon stelde hij dat de Predator “een voorbeeld is van Amerika’s unieke militaire capaciteiten” waarmee Obama graag wil bijdragen aan de geallieerde militaire campagne in Libië.

Marinegeneraal James Cartwright, die samen met Gates het woord voerde, zei dat de eerste missie met de Predators nog voor vandaag gepland stond. Deze werd echter geschrapt vanwege “slechte weersomstandigheden”. Volgens Cartwright staan de drones aanvallen toe op een zeer laag vliegniveau waardoor Gaddafi’s troepen ook op lastigere plekken geraakt kunnen worden.

De VS zullen de kosten van hun operaties in Libië willen verrekenen na hun overwinning. Tot zover is het oorlog op krediet.

The death toll in Libya from US, French and British air strikes continues to mount and promises to rise sharply as the imperialist powers escalate their attacks on both military and civilian targets.
One day after the US deployed Predator drones armed with Hellfire missiles and NATO warned civilians to “distance themselves from Gaddafi regime forces and equipment,” Libyan state television reported that nine people were killed overnight in a NATO air attack on Sirte, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi’s hometown. The news bulletin of al-Jamahiriya said that some of those killed in the air strike were workers at the state water utility.
This followed a report Thursday that seven civilians were killed and 18 wounded in a NATO air raid against the southwestern Tripoli suburb of Khellat al-Ferjan late Wednesday night, and a further report that NATO warplanes struck the town of Bir al-Ghanam, about 30 miles southwest of the Libyan capital, killing four civilians.
The deployment of US missile-armed drones follows the announcement by Britain, France and Italy that all three former colonial powers in North Africa will send military “advisers” to aid the so-called rebel forces based in Benghazi and headed by the Transitional National Council. It also follows the open letter from US President Obama, British Prime Minister Cameron and French President Sarkozy declaring that the war in Libya will continue until Gaddafi is removed from power.
US Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced that Obama had authorized the use of the deadly drone aircraft on Thursday, claiming that their ability to strike targets with “precision” would enable US-NATO forces to destroy pro-Gaddafi military forces and artillery situated in populated urban areas, such as the fiercely contested western Libyan city of Misrata, with little impact on civilians.
With absolutely no public discussion or even the formality of a congressional debate, this escalation was launched the same day. Predator sorties were carried out but the drones were prevented by bad weather from firing their missiles. The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that two drones, each equipped with Hellfire missiles, would be in Libyan airspace around the clock.
There is not even a pretense of democratic concern for public opinion. The New York Times Friday reported the results of a New York Times/CBS News poll showing a sharp rise in popular opposition to the war, now into its second month. The poll showed 45 percent disapproving Obama’s handling of the military intervention and 39 approving. A CBS poll in March showed 50 percent in support and 29 percent opposed.
The carnage caused by US drone attacks in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and Yemen was underscored Friday by another attack in the North Waziristan region of Pakistan bordering Afghanistan, in which 25 were killed, including at least seven women and children. The Pakistani government has reported hundreds of deaths over the past several years from US drone attacks in the border regions, the overwhelming majority of them civilians.
The escalating death and destruction being meted out by the US and its allies in Libya further exposes the lies that were used to justify the launching of the war five weeks ago. An intervention that was presented and authorized by the United Nations Security Council as a non-military and short-term humanitarian action to establish a no-fly zone and protect civilians is ever more brazenly proceeding as a colonialist war to overthrow the existing government and replace it with a regime of US and European agents and quislings.
Despite denials from Washington, London and Paris, preparations are well advanced for the introduction of ground troops. One of the factors delaying such action to date is the existence of sharp differences among the warring powers, driven by their internecine struggle over the division of the spoils in a post-Gaddafi Libya.

TRIPOLI/DEHIBA, Tunisia, April 28 (Reuters) - Forces loyal to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi battled rebels on Thursday for control of a border crossing into Tunisia, provoking an angry protest from Tunis as fighting spilled on to its territory.

Early in the day Gaddafi's troops stormed the Dehiba-Wazin crossing on Libya's western frontier, in what appeared to be part of a broader government offensive to root out rebel outposts beyond their eastern heartland.

Tunisia strongly condemned incursions by government forces, when Libyan artillery shells also struck the Tunisian side of the crossing, and demanded that the Libyans put a stop to them.

"Given the gravity of what has happened ... the Tunisian authorities have informed the Libyans of their extreme indignation and demand measures to put an immediate stop to these violations," a statement from the Foreign Ministry said.

Rebels rapidly staged a counter-offensive for the border post they took only a week ago, and which controls the sole supply road for rebels in Libya's Western Mountains.


Both sides in the civil war, where Gaddafi is fighting to prolong more than four decades of rule over the oil-producing nation, also disputed whether government forces had overrun a remote desert town in the southeast of the country.

After weeks of advances and retreats by rebel and government forces along the Mediterranean coast, fighting has settled into a pattern of clashes and skirmishes.

Nowhere was the fog of war thicker than at Dehiba-Wazin crossing.

"Fighting broke out on Tunisian territory, in Dehiba, after Gaddafi's forces attacked the border crossing," said Ali, a Tunisian involved in helping Libyans arriving in Dehiba, adding that the rebels had withdrawn into Tunisia.

Gaddafi's soldiers apologised to their Tunisian counterparts for the incursion and hoisted their flag at the border, tearing down a pre-Gaddafi era flag that had fluttered for a few days.

Libyan state television said some rebels had been killed and others taken prisoner in the recapture of the border post.

The counter-attack came rapidly. "The rebels in the mountains are firing at the Libyan positions," said Reuters cameraman Abdelaziz Boumzar.

Rebel Akram el Muradi said the battle was going the rebels' way. "Gaddafi's forces are going out and leaving, the Libyan freedom fighters are chasing them," he said.

However, he admitted that the battle was not over and Boumzar, who was watching the fighting from Tunisian territory, said government soldiers were still at the post.

"BALL IN NATO'S COURT"

In the confusion, scores of vehicles headed for the border from the Tunisian side with civilians on board shouting "We've won! We've won!" but they made a swift turn back when they found Gaddafi's forces were still there.

Loss of the crossing would cut off rebels in the Western Mountains from their only road to the outside world, making them rely on rough tracks for supplies of food, fuel and medicine.
