Citaat:

On average the batteries have 92% remaining at 240.000 km (150,000 miles). If the linear behavior would continue, then the ‘lifetime’ (still 80% capacity left) can be calculated as follows: 92-80 = 12% times 50.000 km = 600.000 km, plus 240.000 km, gives 840.000 km (500,000 miles)! Note that a ICE car has a average lifetime of 220.000 km (140,000 miles)… And remember: if an ICE fails after say 300.000 km, you have a problem. The battery in a Tesla EV after the suggested 840.000 km (ok, lets take 500.000 km, still great!) still has 80% capacity left!

To put in into perspective, on a 0-100% scale, it looks like this:

https://www.adac.de/_mmm/pdf/E-Autos...ich_260562.pdf

BMW berline 330 i benzine steptronic 252 PK, basisprijs 43.490 € volgens configuratie 2018:
https://www.bmw.be/nl/ssl/configurat...0_LCI/esl/new/

In order to finance its expensive expansion and Model 3 production ramp-up, Tesla is reportedly raising over $500 million through debt backed by Model S and Model X leases.

And investors are tripping over themselves to subscribe to the deal, according to the report.

The asset-backed bonds, which have yet to be officially announced by the company, are 14 times oversubscribed, according to Bloomberg.

The geezers and ones who invest money into crApple or Fecesbook blindly, and then talk smack about Tesla are truly clueless and naive. Tesla innovates technology and is just starting to get the ball rolling now, those other 2, not at all.

Tesla clarifies comments about Model 3 production ramp – no need for new battery line for 2,500 units per week

Fred Lambert
- Feb. 9th 2018 6:26 pm

During its financial results and conference call, Tesla reiterated that it plans to reach production of 2,500 Model 3 vehicles per week by the end of March and 5,000 units per week by the end of the second quarter.

But some comments led people to believe that those levels of production relied on a whole production line being moved from Germany to the US.

Tesla now clarifies those comments to try to reinforce the expectations for its goals.

CEO Elon Musk said that a newly designed Model 3 battery module production line made by Tesla’s automation group in Germany needed to be disassembled and moved to the US in order for them to start producing more than 2,000 units per week.

Here’s exactly what he said during the call:

“[We] expect the new automated lines to arrive next month in March. And then it’s already working in Germany so that’s going to be disassembled, brought out to the Gigafactory and reassembled and then go into operation at the Gigafactory. It’s not a question whether it works or not. It’s just a question of disassembly, transport and reassembly. So we expect to alleviate that constraint. With alleviating that constraint, that’s what gets us to the roughly 2,000 to 2,500 unit per week production rate.”

That sort of led many people (including us as discussed in our podcast earlier today) to believe that this move needed to be completed by the end of next month in order for Tesla to achieve its goals.

But the company issued a clarification in a SEC filing after market close today.

They wrote:

“The “2,000 to 2,500” units per week cited in this comment refers solely to the capacity of the additional automated battery module manufacturing equipment that is currently located in Germany, and not to Tesla’s total Model 3 production run rate or to the capacity of the automated battery module equipment that is already present at Gigafactory 1. Tesla’s ability to meet its target of 2,500 per week by end of Q1 2018 is not dependent on the additional equipment that is currently located in Germany, as that equipment is expected to start ramping production during Q2 2018. With respect to battery module production, Tesla’s ability to meet its target of 2,500 per week by end of Q1 2018 is dependent only on the equipment that is already present at Gigafactory 1, as well as the incremental capacity that is currently being added through the semi-automated lines that were also discussed during the conference call.”

The “semi-automated lines” are lines that require some manual labor, but Musk praised their efficiency nonetheless during the conference call.

Electrek’s Take

It’s rare that Tesla issues clarifications of the sort, which leads me to believe that they are really trying to reinforce the expectation that they can reach the goal of 2,500 units per week – especially after the updated Model 3 delivery window for reservation holders this week.

Moving a production line is no small feat, but Musk did say that it would arrive in the US in March, which made sense with the timeline for the goal – albeit being a little ambitious, but what’s new?

But it now sounds like Tesla currently has the resources needed to ramp up production to 2,500 units per week within the next 4 weeks without the new line up and running.

What do you think? Let us know in the comment section below.

Noppes. Vastgelegde vanafprijs? Iemand iets gehoord? Vorst ligt in BE hé.

Citaat:
We continue to target weekly Model 3 production rates of 2,500 by the end of Q1 and 5,000 by the end of Q2. It is important to note that while these are the levels we are focused on hitting and we have plans in place to achieve them, our prior experience on the Model 3 ramp has demonstrated the difficulty of accurately forecasting specific production rates at specific points in time. What we can say with confidence is that we are taking many actions to systematically address bottlenecks and add capacity in places like the battery module line where we have experienced constraints, and these actions should result in our production rate significantly increasing during the rest of Q1 and through Q2.

Citaat:
Panasonic Is Going to Make Batteries for Toyota's Electric Cars Too

Panasonic is the main EV battery supplier for Elon Musk’s Tesla (TSLA, +2.54%). The electronics firm commands 29 percent of the market for batteries used in plug-in hybrids and EVs, according to Nomura Research data for the first half of 2017.

Panasonic’s nearest rival LG Chem holds 13 percent of the market, followed by China’s BYD on 10 percent and Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL) at 9 percent.

“Working with automakers from the initial stages could allow battery makers to win orders that unlock economies of scale further down the road,” Credit Suisse analyst Mika Nishimura said in a research note to clients ahead of the Toyota-Panasonic announcement. “Partnerships could also allow battery makers to share R&D and capex costs with automakers to some extent.”

Panasonic sees batteries as central to its plan to nearly double automotive business revenue to 2.5 trillion yen ($22.05 billion) by the year through March 2022. To that end, it has been expanding battery production capacity globally.

It started mass production of battery cells at Tesla’s “Gigafactory” in the U.S. state of Nevada earlier this year and plans to follow suit at a new plant in Dalian, China. It is also adding new production lines in Japan.

https://insideevs.com/ev-battery-mak...ity-of-market/

Citaat:
https://insideevs.com/panasonic-hint...esla-in-china/

At CES 2018, Panasonic presented some new lithium-ion cells, but what caught our attention was the mention of a Panasonic/Tesla battery factory in China.

According to the Nikkei, Panasonic’s president Kazuhiro Tsuga said that the company is considering a new battery factory in China (in addition to its current one in Dalian) for Tesla electric cars. It’s been suggest that Tesla is considering making cars in Shanghai.

According to Nikkei:

“…its [Panasonic’s] main plant in the northeastern Chinese city of Dalian already produces batteries, although they are a different type than those it supplies to Tesla.”

It’s especially interesting because the Tesla Gigafactory is still far (at least a few years) from reaching its full production capacity.

There’s some more news on the Tesla front. Nikkei reports:

“Tsuga also mentioned that Tesla had lowered its targeted production increase to 2,500 cars a week from 5,000. There has also been a delay in the planned delivery of car batteries from Panasonic. “

To bring battery and car production to China (and maybe avoid taxes or even catch onto some of the ample incentives) Tesla’s sales forecast for China must be much higher than we’ve been led to believe.

Duitse krant verspreidt desinformatie?

http://www.sueddeutsche.de/auto/elek...ueck-1.3866854
