Misschien was dit altijd zo, de toenmalige techniek was niet zo ver gevorderd als nu hé.

Lijkt mij meer een zijdelings uitstulpen van het materiaal onder invloed van de bovendruk (gewicht), het zogenaamde Poisson-effect. Zelfs oud glas lijkt mij over weinig viscositeit te beschikken, maar ik kan me vergissen natuurlijk.
