Standaard DHKC 373: The old theories about the Sabanci Center have gone mouldy!

DHKC 373: The old theories about the Sabanci Center have gone mouldy!

Date : May 18, 2008 Statement No. 373 Time for new theories! The punishment action targeting Ozdemir Sabanci on the 25th floor of the Sabanci Center has not ceased to stir up controversy since it was carried out on January 9, 1996. From that day there have been many who seek to shroud in mist the action and obscure the reasons the DHKC carried it out.

DHKC 373: The old theories about the Sabanci Center have gone mouldy!

“No, the DHKC could not have carried out this action… and if it did it, it was only ‘sub-contracted’…”

And if you ask what it was sub-contracted for, do not panic for there is a ready answer: Ozdemir Sabanci was a victim of commercial struggles between the Japanese and the French. So he was assassinated as a result of “bitter competition inside the automobile industry.”…

Does this theory not please you?

Well, never mind, there are others.

A little before Ozdemir Sabanci was killed, Sakip Sabanci (his brother) “had crossed the line” saying that there was a need to resolve the Kurdish question etc… And there you have it, that is the answer… So “a gang of criminals” liquidated Sabanci... This “gang” used the above-mentioned organisation to do the work. And so the puzzle is solved!

In the space of 12 years, these theories have been repeated hundreds of times in books and newspapers.

However, there is not a single piece of evidence that actually stands up any of these theories.

They have become moth-eaten, they are like a record that has been played so often it is worn out. With no more takers, they are not worth anything, so they need new ones.

And here is a new candidate!

A few days ago a new book came out claiming to fill the huge voids left (!) by the other theories.

This book is called “Code Name: Putsch” and the author is Zihni Cakir. The sub-title is “Deciphering the Ergenekon codes” (1) “from secret documents, telephone tapes and sketches”.

The daily newspaper “Taraf” published an extract and the book became famous. As you would suspect, the extract the newspaper used to promote the book dealt with the Sabanci action.

For those who have not read it, here is the substance of the book’s content: according to the new conspiracy theory, the killing of Ozdemir Sabanci was planned by the fascist Abdullah Catli (2), the police chief Huseyin Kocadag, both of whom died in the Susurluk car crash, and by the infantry captain Huseyin Pepekal. The reason for the killing was that the Sabancis had trafficked in drugs seized earlier by the police and turned over to the Sabancis so they could destroy them at their Akcimento cement works in Buyukcekmece (translator’s note: a suburb of Istanbul not far from Ataturk Airport). (According to this part of the theory, drug barons like Catli and his friends are presented as being ferocious opponents of drug trafficking. This is the most comical aspect of the theory.)
Ignoring warnings from Catli and his chums, the Sabancis allegedly continued exporting drugs to Europe. So the mission of killing Sabanci was given to the DHKC “in return for payment”… So the DHKC killed Sabanci.

So Catli is supposed to have met the mafioso Baybasin (3) and Baybasin is supposed to have met the general secretary of the DHKP, Dursun Karatas... The author of the book has no proof, no documents which support his theories. But it does not matter as they are plumbing depths which have no limits.
Those who take this kind of nonsense seriously have not an ounce of legal knowledge, democratic awareness or scientific rigour, nor the slightest journalistic or intellectual honesty. Neither justice, nor democracy, nor science, nor honesty: just a heap of imbecilic rubbish.

To all pseudo-theoreticians gripped by such scenarios who try to slander and create doubt about our organisation, our leaders and our fighters, we have always said the same thing: those who cannot prove what they say are scoundrels… Like all the pathetic people of his type, Zihni Cakir will fall silent because he too cannot prove what he says. He will be a scoundrel all his life.

The conspiracy theorists are in it for greed!

Conspiracy theories are one of the easiest professions to get into. It has become almost a commercial sector in our country. You can hardly count the buffoons who make a living from “commenting” upon these matters on TV, in books and in newspaper columns.

The conspiracy theorist Zihni Cakir claims in the introduction to his book that “the aim is the democratic one of ‘informing public opinion’”. As always, they have only the noblest of objectives, it is for “the country”, the “nation”, or “democracy” that they do the things they do! Nonsense. Their motives are mercenary and the stories they tell are designed to serve one or other sector of the powers that be.

Of course they are worried about Sabanci. But they have no problem with people being executed, slaughtered, kidnapped and tortured to uphold the Sabanci system, based on exploitation and tyranny.

In this latest conspiracy theory, who knows what internal quarrels among the oligarchy are causing the claim to be made that the Sabanci dynasty are involved in drug trafficking? Anyway it would not be the first time the monopolist bourgeoisie has soiled itself on such terrain.

For the monopolist bourgeoisie, drug dealing is miniscule compared to what else they do and indeed the bourgeoisie is heavily involved in this kind of traffic. It also organises coups d’état. As well as creating networks like “Susurluk” and “Ergenekon”. It finances training camps for commandoes and supports mercenary groups like Hizbullah (4). In fact, the contra-guerrillas, whose activities extend to the narcotics traffic, prostitution and money-laundering, were created precisely to serve the Sabancis and those like them.

Buffoons like Zihni Cakir deliberately avoid talking about these aspects of Ergenekon, the contra-guerrillas and the Sabancis. Their books contain no traces or “theories” about the crimes of these milieux.

Conspiracy theorists have tiny brains!

Their brain size is revealed by the absurdity of the things they come out with. These wild-eyed anoraks have long been made use of. Their world is based on the crude duality of manipulators and manipulated. Their small brains cannot conceive of an event occurring or a person behaving in ways differently from how they conceive. Nor can they imagine an individual or an organisation who neither uses someone else nor is used by someone else.

It is especially important to ask about the monopolies who are the “lords” and “masters” of this country. Let us not even speak of opposing the social classes, for such a thought would not even occur to them. Because they have no class consciousness, they cannot imagine an organisation gunning down a bourgeois monopolist. There has to somehow be a “sub-contractor” behind it all.

Using those who are weaker and being used by those who are stronger – that is precisely how poltroons like Zihni Cakir behave. His own book is a good example of his cowardice.

Zihni Cakir is used by the system, and shouts at the top of his lungs to win over at least a part of the oligarchy.

In fact, he had to write something sensational in a book about “Ergenekon” to attract attention. For his book is not based on any serious investigation, not does it have any interesting “ideas” or scientific value, it is about using twaddle to promote his book.

As for the newspaper “Taraf” which played the greatest part in publicising a false document (5) and far-fetched conspiracy theorising, it is a pro-European newspaper. It presents itself as democratic. But when it comes to conspiracy theories, its democratism and sense of journalistic responsibility evaporate. This newspaper has had no problem spreading baseless slanders and libelling revolutionaries! That is the way it is. But does not the quality of being a democrat require you to allow the other party a voice, the accused organisation? Isn’t that a basic journalistic principle? But clearly there are limits that Europhile democrats do not wish to cross.

No theory can or will be able to distort the nature of the Sabanci action!

The real target of Zihni Cakir purports to be the “Ergenekon” network. But the internal conflicts of the oligarchy always require them to sully the left. This is one constant theme of the bourgeoisie. If revolutionaries or the left are mentioned in a story, it is only to present them as people who are being “manipulated”. That allows them to obscure reality. Because they cannot allow people to think that revolutionaries can, of their own free will, settle accounts with the imperialists and their collaborators. Let us note the political force of that action that 12 years have passed but they are still trying to show that it was not done by revolutionaries!

Yes, we were the ones who did it. We did it because he was a monopolist who exploits the peoples of Turkey and was responsible for a major part of the repression that the peoples of Turkey had experienced over decades at that point. Is there a single speculative claim of conspiracy theory that can change that reality?

But we would not wish to dull the ardour of all the purveyors of cheap junk.

We are waiting for new theories. What is the next one? Was Sabanci killed in a “crime passionnel” involving a bodice-ripping romantic plot? Or perhaps “commercial competition” among the Sabanci brothers over running the company? These would be new ways for the conspiracy theorists to earn a crust… Whatever, that kind of thing pays well. Whatever, some newspaper or other will offer it and hope you take it seriously. So keep on selling your wares.

Keep up the conspiracy theories, it is easy and costs nothing.

Except that we must remind Zihni Cakir, the author of the latest theory:

You have to prove each phrase and every word you write.

If you cannot, you are a SCOUNDREL!

Like all who produce this kind of hackneyed rubbish about revolutionaries…

Explanatory notes:

(1) Ergenekon is the name of the mythical valley where the Turkish people originated. The fascist Grey Wolves are very keen on it and it is also the name of a mafia and far right network embedded in the Turkish state and suspected of a number of political murders.

(2) Not simply a bloody fascist and drug dealer, Abdullah Catli was also a key Turkish Gladio figure and mercenary for the CIA and the MIT Turkish security service.

(3) Huseyin Baybasin is a Kurdish drug baron, currently serving a life sentence in the Netherlands.

(4) Turkish Hizbullah should not be confused with the Lebanese resistance organisation Hezbollah.

(5) To bolster his theories, the author claims to base his account on a MIT report allegedly based on searches. A number of newspapers have questioned the authenticity of the rather clumsily written report, and MIT too denies that it is authentic.
