Het einde van "the Queen's English" ?

Er is nu een app waarmee u in het Engels van koningin Elizabeth kunt sms'en, tweeten en mailen. Toch gaat het niet goed met dat 'koninklijke' Engels, want The Queen's English Society houdt ermee op. De Britten tonen geen interesse meer in dit genootschap voor het behoud van 'proper English'. Toch slaagden de initiatiefnemers erin om spelling, interpunctie en grammatica in het nationale leerplan te laten opnemen.

Dat de organisatie haar activiteiten stopzet, is ook jammer voor haar tegenhanger, The Anti-Queen's English Society.

Het rommelt in het reusachtige engelse taalgebied, er is een dispuut gaande in de VS over xe tegenstelling tussen de "gewone" taal en het "schoolengels"
en de algemene normen vervagen steeds meer. Moeten we in het nederlandse taalgebied misschien ook de teugels laten vieren ?

Taal is sowieso een levende materie. Maar de teugels laten vieren leidt tot ridicuul pidgin (verbastering van business) engels of varkensvloms zullen we maar zeggen.

Ik vind het op zich al een drama dat het onzijdige lidwoord bijna als "extraatje" wordt bezien, gezien het feit dat de massale toevloed van mensen die geen onzijdig in hun heimweetaal kennen, dit maar niet onder de knie krijgen.

Er bestaat geen taalgebied waar de lagere klasse de standaardtaal perfect beheerst. Taal is tot nader order nog steeds in de eerste plaats een communicatiemiddel.

Nu en dan lees je in een krantenartikel of zo wel eens Amerikaanse facebookberichten. Het Engels dat je daar in leest is wel beschamend. Een minimum aan spelling en grammatica mag je toch wel verwachten.
