The Controversial Theory That Oil Might Be Forming Deep Inside the Earth. ?????????
A growing number of researchers are revisiting a bold idea known as the abiogenic petroleum hypothesis — the theory that oil and natural gas may not come solely from ancient lifeforms, but could instead be generated deep within Earth’s mantle through powerful geothermal and chemical reactions.
According to this model, hydrogen and carbon compounds combine under immense pressure and heat near the boundary between the mantle and core, forming hydrocarbons that slowly migrate upward through the crust to create oil and gas reservoirs. If correct, this means fossil fuels might not be entirely “fossil” after all — and could be partially renewable over geological timescales as Earth’s interior continues to produce them.
While the theory remains highly controversial and is not accepted by mainstream geology, it challenges long-standing beliefs about finite petroleum reserves and raises intriguing possibilities about Earth’s deep chemistry. Some experimental and field evidence — including unexpected hydrocarbon deposits in crystalline basement rocks — has kept the debate alive.
If proven, the abiogenic hypothesis could transform our understanding of planetary geology, revealing that Earth is still actively generating energy resources from its core — a living, breathing engine far beneath our feet. ????

could it be products of nuclear fissions or nuclear reactions deep inside our earth?? Other hypothesis is some kind of elektrolytic proces, with crystals under pressure that produce electrical currents.

The late Astronomer and Astrophysicist Fred Hoyle, essentially had the same theory back in the 1950's. According to his theory, petroleum should be seeping out CONTINUOUSLY inside the Earth, due to pressure and the density of different layers separating out over time. Might be some truth to it after all. ????

Has anyone else noticed the number of dinosaurs it would have taken to create the amazing amount of oil we consume on this planet. It’s actually surprising that we still call this fossil fuel

Coal I get, never oil from dinosaurs, I lived my whole life in oil areas pumps turned on when they filled back up

The term abiogenic oil refers to the discredited scientific hypothesis that petroleum and natural gas deposits are formed from inorganic sources deep within the Earth, rather than from the decay of ancient organic matter. While small amounts of abiogenic hydrocarbons do exist, the overwhelming scientific consensus and geochemical evidence prove that commercially viable oil and gas deposits are biogenic in origin.
