Standaard Well Said Mr President! I would like to add few more things for consideration.

Of all the news items that appeared in the local press last week on the
subject of governance in Sri Lanka the following two attributed to the Sri
Lankan President, I think, should draw the attention of all those who are
concerned with domestic politics as well as the foreign policy of Sri Lanka.
These two statements, I think marks a land mark in the evolution of the
political history of this Island nation. Not only those who supported
Mahinda Rajapakse at the last elections, but even his political opponents
who are still patriotic and who crave for the sovereignty, independence and
the political stability of the Island nation, I think should take serious
notice of these developments and rally round the President and support him
to enable him to carry out these policies without giving in to both internal
and external forces that stand against their implementation. The need for
such public support is very crucial at a critical time of the nation like
the present, especially when so many forces are at work hell mel against
policies of the present government.

Firstly - There are the domestic traitors who openly support the LTTE and
oppose Mahinda Rajapakse regime for the greed of LTTE money or Dollars
coming from international organizations, which want to destabilize the Sri
Lankan state. Even the leader of the oppositions who has already betrayed
the country by going in for a CFA with the terrorist and CBK the
ex-President who connived with it is with them. Other quislings in this
group include the numerous NGOs, the so-called intellectuals and 'champions'
of human rights (of cause not Sinhala human rights and they fight only for
Tamil human rights) like Kumar Rupasingha. Vickramabahu, Uyangoda, Nimalka
Fernando who shamelessly and openly parade in support of the division of the
country. Besides these local traitors we also have the Norwegians, the Sri
Lanka Monitoring (rather Misleading Mission) Mission and other international
conspirators, of cause with India (with her extremely duplicitous and
dubious attitude towards Sri Lanka), which consider Sri Lanka as one of her
regional states which has a birth right to bully her neighbours, work day
and night against our independence and sovereignty. Therefore the whole
nation has to strengthen the hands of the President and the government and
give him the courage to carry out this course of action without giving in to
any kind of force that stands deleterious to the independence and
sovereignty of this country.

Now let us briefly look at the two statements referred to above that have
been made by the President.

1.Nov 16 (AP) President on Thursday asked separatist Tamil Tiger rebels to
surrender weapons and help end decades of bloodshed in the island nation, as
a British envoy met with the insurgents to salvage a tenuous cease-fire. In
a speech to Parliament, President Mahinda Rajapakse asked the rebels to
"give up violence altogether, surrender arms ... and work toward promoting
peace democracy and development in the interest of building a new Sri Lanka

2.India Needs not play a direct role in Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa
Nov.15 (HT) in an interesting comment, which comes in the wake of a
vociferous demand in Tamilnadu that India should intervene in Sri Lanka's
ethnic crisis, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa has said that India need not
play a direct role in the peace process in his country. Rajapaksa said that
it would be enough if India carried on a global campaign against the
collection of funds and arms buy the LTTE.

At the very outset it must be pointed out that both these statements made by
the President signal a clear message to both the tigers as well as the
Indian government.

The first one he made in the Parliament as he was presenting the budget
speech. The place where he made this statement and also the time of making
it are both very important and relevant. Because, Parliament is the august
assembly of legislators (at least in theory) of the nation, which takes the
major policy decisions with regards to the governance of the country. In
other words the, as the head of the state, he has clearly told the
legislators of this country as to what all of them should strive at to
restore peace and order in this country. His determination not to give in to
naked terrorism is also amply manifest in this statement. When the President
asked the LTTE to lay down arms as the first step towards peace, I have no
doubt that this had many other implications as well that might follow this
first step towards the resolution of this problem. He also now holds the
record of being the first head of State who was bold enough to tell the
Tigers to lay down their arms. It is also worth while to note the difference
between this President and the CBK- Ranil duo on the other hand as national
leaders in this context.

The second statement where he has clearly stated that India need not play a
direct role in the Sri Lankan conflict gives a strong message to Indian
leadership. This is because the president knows perhaps better than his
predecessors that India, going by past experience will never do anything
that might upset its electorate in the Tamilnadu. Therefore we cannot
definitely expect India to support the government's stand in this regard.
That is quite understandable as every one could see their struggle to
political survival at home. I only hope that Indian leaders will properly
grasp both the explicit and implicit meaning of this statement. But I am not
sure whether "Ingi nodanna ekata kelamolen annath palak weida kiyala." In
this scenario it is timely too that the President said this much to the
Indian government particularly at a time when not only the whole of south
India but even the so-called educated lawyers and Civil Servants of India
like Chatwal (a former Ambassador to Sri Lanka) are also up in arms against
the legitimate steps taken against the terrorists outfit who have killed
their own Prime minister.

The main cause for this unfortunate situation in my opinion is the dismal
failure on the part of successive governments of Sri Lanka to put this issue
in the correct perspective. Had they told the Indian governments at the very
outset to treat this purely as an internal problem of Sri Lanka where India
has no stake what so ever, I think India would not have poked its finger to
our internal problems like this. The tragedy with Tamils in Sri Lanka on the
other hand is that they always think they are Indians by nationality and
their allegiance too, is always to India. They never treat Sri Lanka as
their motherland. India too on the other hand treat Tamils living in Sri
Lanka as India's people and it is her duty to look after their interest as
well. This is the root cause of the Indo-Lanka problem. This intractable
misconception has to be removed once and for all if goodwill between the two
countries has to prevail.

The mistake India does is that she thinks she has an unquestionable right
over the countries around the subcontinent to impose their will over them.
This is the most unfortunate cancer of Indian foreign policy that has
emerged since the death of Jawaharlal Nehru. If India continues to bully its
neighbours in this manner, I must warn, the day that it will get isolated
and hated among the South Asian nations is not that far. All in the region,
except Sri Lanka, already hates India at the moment.

So I wish the Sri Lankan President, in his forth-coming visit will enlighten
the Indian leaders to resolve this problem once and forever so that
thereafter at least the Tamils in Sri Lanka will begin to think and behave
as Sri Lanakns. The Indians I think should first sweep their own dirty
courtyards before they try to sweep others by force. If they continue even
thereafter I don't see any difference between their actions and the actions
of the terrorists.

In other words that would be nothing but naked political aggression they
would be committing against this Island as they did in 1987 by dropping
Parippu to the Jaffna peninsula against the Vadamarachchi operation. Had
they not done so in 1987 today there would have been no terrorist problem in
Sri Lanka? That would have saved not only the life of nearly 2000 Indian
soldiers, who died in the IPKF operations but also would have freed both Sri
Lanka and India of the terrorist menace.

Having said that I would also like to draw the attention of the Sri Lankan
President for the following issues to be taken up with the Indian government
on his forth coming visit later this month to India.

1. India should at least now stop treating Sri Lanka shabbily as one of her
dependent colonies any longer and learn to respect Sri Lanka as an
independent sovereign state of equal status, which has the fullest right to
manage her own affairs.

2 India should also be told very clearly that there is no ethnic problem in
Sri Lanka and also there is no Sinhala-Tamil problem either, as 52 % of the
Sri Lankan Tamils (north and east Tamils) even now live in the other parts
of the country among the majority community-the Sinhalese without any
problem. What we have is only a ruthless terrorist menace created by a Nazi
type of brutal killer out fit of uneducated, undemocratic thugs who kill
every one that stands against heir killings irrespective of whether they are
Sinhalese, Tamils or Muslims.

3 The same position should be stated with regard to Estate Tamils as well.
They two are now our citizens and therefore India has no legal or moral
right what so-ever to talk on behalf of them. Their destinies have to be
decided by the Sri Lankan government within the provisions of the Sri Lankan
constitution and not by the Indian government any longer. On the other hand
if there are any who are not willing to treat this country as their
motherland and still want to treat India as their mother land then hey could
very well go back to India as well.

At the same time I would like to draw the President's kind attention to the
following issues as well, in order to resolve the present crisis and restore
permanent peace and sanity in this country.

1. Dismantle the SLMM and send the Norwegians conspirators home at least now

2. Check the credentials and bona-fides of every person who comes as
international agents on various so-called facts finding missions before they
are admitted to the country for such engagements so that there will be no
more Allen rocks are allowed to the country in future

3. Sack traitors like Dilan Perera who works against your policies while
holding ministerial posts in your government so that others of the like will
also learn a lesson.

4. Ask those Tamils living outside the north and east whether they are
prepared to leave their present residents and go and settle down in
(Prabhakarans Nazi ELLAM).

5. Demand that the LTTE release all those who are in their custody as POW
immediately

6 Ask the LTTE to stop killing other Tamils, and stop all other nefarious
activities like child recruitment, kappan collection, taxing and harassing
innocent Tamils in the wanni, and also to dismantle their illicit police
force, courts and banks etc.

7 Invoke the provisions of the 6th amendment to the constitution and deal
firmly with all those culprits and traitors who violate the provisions
therein either on the streets or in the Parliament or on other fora, both
national and international. If possible implement such decisions with
retrospective effect so that every traitor will gets his/her due. (please
see the recent attempt by the Bishop of Jaffna to send 5000 letters against
the government of Sri Lanka to the Secretary General of the UN)

8 Also tell the whole world that there cannot be two nations in Sri Lanka,
as we had only one nation from the beginning of history- that is the Sinhala
nation up top 1815 and thereafter Ceylonese/Sri Lankan up to date.

9 Also counter the LTTE disinformation network effectively and tell the
Tamil diaspora (who finance the LTTE) and the world the real truth about the
situation in Sri Lanka through our embassies abroad and all other possible
channels.

10 Dispel the allegation made by the LTTE of ethnic discriminations against
the Tamils and the diabolical lie of majoritarian rule imposed on them by
our government, with facts and figures so that the entire world will come to
know the truth about their malicious and false fabrications.

If the government is prepared to do at least half of this list, I can vouch
you that it will pave the way towards a lasting solution to the terrorist
problem in this country.
