It's down to the votes though. It's the people who vote for who they believe will be the best to run the government, but a certain number of seats is required also. It is rather complicated, but this is the first time in x amount of years that a hung parliament has been called. Overall, it was Conservative who won, with the most votes and therefore seats, but they didn't have enough to govern overall, if that makes any sense.

Each vote is equal, but it is the public who choose, it always has been.

I think it's the same in Belgium isn't it? The public chooses the party that will run the government, only difference is in England you're not obligated by law to vote. Only registered voters can vote and it is your choice in the UK if you wish to be a registered voter or not.

In het VK zit je met een situatie dat omwille van first-past-the-post 60 percent van het electoraat dat ging stemmen juist niet vertegenwoordigd is in het Parlement en je dus inherent aan het systeem met een democratisch deficit zit.
