![]() A new phase in democracy was marked today with Estonia being the first country in the EU to have on- line voting for the European Parliament elections. The on-line polls opened at 9am local time.
Libertas intern, Vahur Orrin from Tallinn, cast his vote as soon as polls opened and aimed to be the first voter. “I feel proud that Estonia is the first country to introduce on-line voting and I’m hoping that other countries will take it up. On-line voting will ensure that more people vote in the European elections. From my involvement in Libertas, I know that people across Europe are concerned that Brussels is not listening to them. On-line voting means that more people can send a message to Brussels and take a stake in Europe.“ A photograph of Vahur casting his vote can be seen at Libertas.eu’s Flickr account.here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/libertaseu/3572705812/ Libertas.eu is a pro-European movement committed to bringing more democracy, accountability and transparency to European Union law-making and institutions. In June, over 600 Libertas-backed candidates will run across member countries of the European Union for the European Parliament elections. Libertas.eu seeks to have the European voters’ mandate to reform the EU. This is the first time a pan-European party will contest the European elections. Contact Anita Kelly on Bron: politics.be
