Father blames Bush for son's beheading Philadelphia May 15, 2004 Page Tools Email to a friend Printer format The father of Nick Berg, the American beheaded in Iraq, has directly blamed President George Bush and Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld for his son's death. "My son died for the sins of George Bush and Donald Rumsfeld - this Administration did this," Michael Berg said in a radio interview on Thursday. A seething Mr Berg said his son, 26, a civilian contractor, probably would have felt positive, even about his executioners, until the last minute. Two days after the publication of a video showing the execution, Mr Berg attacked the Bush Administration for its invasion of Iraq and its sponsorship of the Patriot Act. Asked to respond to Mr Berg's comments, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said: "The Berg family is going through a very difficult period and they remain in our thoughts and prayers." Mr Berg's criticism came amid finger-pointing between his family, military officials and Iraqi police over the young businessman's imprisonment before his execution. Michael Berg rejected US Government claims that his son had never been held by American authorities in Iraq. The Iraqi police chief in the city of Mosul has also contradicted statements by the US-led coalition concerning the younger Berg's detention. CBS reported on Thursday that Berg was questioned by FBI agents who discovered he had been interviewed before because a computer password he used in college had turned up in the possession of accused September 11 conspirator Zaccarias Moussaoui. It said the FBI had concluded there was nothing sinister in that. - Reuters Heb je de laatste alinea ook goed gelezen ?
