Trader op BBC TV: 'Goldman Sachs rules the world, the markets are toast' !

Goodness me, hier is my take:

Eerst en vooral: dat traderke praat zeer verwarrend, springt van de hak op de tak (let er maar eens op hoe dikwijls hij zichzelf onderbreekt en herbegint........ zeeeeeeeer ergerlijk), en frankly, hij lijkt me niet erg verstandig om het mild te zeggen.

Die kerel is m.i. dik gebuisd als trader (daarom dat hij ''mentor'' en daytrader op zichzelf is .), maar kom, tot daartoe, maar hem als refertentie gebruiken vind ik erover, sorry.

Wat hij inhoudelijk zegt is technisch en feitelijk juist maar absoluut niets speciaals noch shockerend. Ik vind hem echter wel een slechte referentie om die zaken te laten uitkramen.

Het radio-interview kwam inderdaad een beetje stuntelig over.

De asiatische man was het dan ook niet steeds akkoord met hem.
Waarop hij zei dat twee economen het raar of zelden het met elkaar eens zijn, maar dat hij in feite geen econoom is. Soit.

Het aanraden van put options voor Jan met de pet was mss wel ietsje erover...

Desalniettemin liet de BBC, in opvolging van dit interview, het TV-optreden toe.

Mss heeft deze man iets te maken met de protestactie op Wall Street. Ik heb nooit eerder de BBC dit soort verklaringen weten uitzenden...

BBC ersatz trader has serious markets message

Wall Street now has its equivalent of a reality TV star. A clip from the BBC of a self-described trader admitting to dreaming of financial doom as a money spinner has spread like wildfire. The Gordon Gekko wannabe doesn’t work for a Wall Street firm but his vulgar amorality offers a description of trading that has struck a chord with a public still smoldering over bank bailouts.

Ersatz trader Alessio Rastani wasn’t a big name in finance. He was nobody until this week. Still, he has some claim to represent the primitive Id of traders everywhere. His obvious indifference to the human suffering caused by financial collapses and economic downturns — in this case the crisis facing European nations — seemingly shocked the public, not to mention BBC presenters who let him rant ad nauseam.


Few traders, however, would have failed to recognize his priorities. The best of them should be able to exploit disasters as well as coast upward in good times. In fact, traders are often at their worst when they start to care — as usually masterful hedge fund godfather George Soros showed when he lost money investing in Russia in the late 1990s, seemingly out of a desire to help politically.

Wall Street executives prefer Rastani’s dirty secret to remain on the trading floor. The likes of Goldman Sachs’ boss Lloyd Blankfein have worked hard to underline the social benefits of banking.

Sorry, but this trader's banking confession was no prank

The Yes Men have been blamed for Alessio Rastani's comments on the financial crisis. But sometimes truth outdoes satire


This week, an insignificant market trader and self-proclaimed financial self-help guru, Alessio Rastani, rocketed to stardom after speaking frankly on the BBC about the collapsing market and his plans to make money from it. We Yes Men heard about it right away, because soon after the broadcast, people started emailing from all over the world to congratulate us on another prank well done. They couldn't imagine that a real trader could possibly speak so candidly about the market, so they assumed Rastani was one of our posturings.

He wasn't. Rastani is small potatoes, but he's a real trader. And he said nothing that would suggest otherwise; he simply described what he does, more honestly than a true insider would, but quite accurately. "Every night I dream of another recession," Rastani said, and explained that it's possible to make huge money from a big crisis even when millions of others lose their life savings, and worse.

Well, duh. Don't we all know that Goldman Sachs bet against the same housing market they were such a big player in, and made $1bn in profit when the sub-prime crisis rendered millions of Americans homeless?

Lately, it hasn't been working so well. Something has been speaking in very plain language to millions of people. The crowds amassing in cities from New York to Athens to Paris are just the tip of the iceberg, just the most visible of all those who have long known, viscerally, that Rastani's point of view is actually mainstream. Those people also know that, armed with truth and awareness, anything is possible.
