A report issued to subscribers only by the MEMRI website showed a photograph of the victim crucified on an electric pylon in south Yemen's Abyan province. Translated, a sign affixed above the victim's head displayed the flag of the Al-Qaeda-linked group and a text from verse 5:33 of the Koran: "The recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and do mischief in the land is only that they shall be killed or crucified or their hands and their feet be cut off from opposite sides, or be exiled from the land. That is their disgrace in this world, and a great torment is theirs in the Hereafter."

Shoebat said that crucifixions are “something new.” However, there have been reports recently that Christian children have been crucified by Muslim extremists in Iraq to terrify Christians and force them to leave.

The report noted, “One researcher, Saeed Obaid Elaf, said that, ‘The incidents of these executions never occurred previously in Yemen but follows the sequence of events which occurred previously in Afghanistan and Iraq [where] … Islam is the religion of the state. In Iraq these [terrorists] see Iraq as the Islamic State of Iraq.

“‘In Afghanistan, the ones who receive this type of executions are those who are considered spies. But in Yemen this is the first time we have seen such phenomenon, which has become a natural thing now because al-Qaida now exercises the powers of the state and it’s natural that it carries out such executions.”

A report on the Arabic Sky News notes that crucifixions are being carried out in Egypt, virtually under the nose of the newly elected President Mohammed Morsi, who has long been a member of the Muslim Brotherhood. An English translation of the Sky News report stated that members of the Muslim Brotherhood crucified dissidents and “crucified” them “naked on trees in front of the presidential palace.”

A translation of the Arabic Sky News report said, ““Sky News correspondent confirmed that members of the Muslim Brotherhood crucified dissidents to Muhammad Mursi naked on trees in front of the presidential palace. In addition, other demonstrators from the Muslim Brotherhood closed the gates not allowing entry to Media City in the area of Sixth of October as they attacked popular media figures.” Several other newspapers in the region reported on the crucifixions, while at least one website posted the image of a man who narrowly escaped crucifixion but suffered a gaping wound in his side. Al Dostour, an Egyptian newspaper, and TunisSat also reported on the crucifixions. (...)

CAIRO — The military’s ouster of President Mohamed Morsi has unleashed a new wave of violence by extremist Muslims against Christians whom they blame for having supported the calls to overthrow Mr. Morsi, Egypt’s first Islamist elected leader, according to rights activists.

Since Mr. Morsi’s ouster on July 3, the activists say, a priest has been shot dead in the street, Islamists have painted black X’s on Christian shops to mark them for arson and angry mobs have attacked churches and besieged Christians in their homes. Four Christians were reported slaughtered with knives and machetes in one village last week.

“They thought Christians played a big role in the protests and in the army’s intervention to topple Morsi, so this is revenge for that,” said Ishaq Ibrahim, who has documented the violence for the Cairo-based Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights, or EIPR.

Many Islamist leaders blamed Christians and holdovers from the Mubarak era for the mass protests against Mr. Morsi that took place on the June 30 anniversary of his swearing-in. Even rank-and-file Islamists maintaining a sit-in in a Cairo suburb calling for Mr. Morsi’s return often have spoken spitefully of what they described as Christian collusion.

In some places, Christians were admonished not to participate in the anti-Morsi protests. Fliers distributed in the upper Egypt province of Minya, documented by EIPR, warned that “one liter of gas can light up your gold, wood, plumbing, tractor, carpentry shops, buses, cars, houses, churches, schools, agricultural fields and workshops.”

After Mr. Morsi’s ouster, Islamist mobs in the village of Dagala in that province looted one church, burned a building belonging to another and surrounded Christian homes, shattering their widows with rocks and clubs, EIPR said.

After one Christian man shot at the attackers from his roof, they dragged his wife from the house, beat her up and shot her. She is currently hospitalized, according to EIPR.

“The police came the day after the events and they didn’t do anything,” Mr. Ibrahim said. “People prevented the fire engines from coming in so they couldn’t do anything.”

In the village of Naga Hassan near Luxor, Muslim mobs invaded Christian homes and set them alight while besieging other Christians in their homes. Security forces arrived to evacuate the women, but left the men, four of whom were subsequently stabbed and beaten to death, Mr. Ibrahim said. One of them, Emile Nessim, was a local organizer for the tamarrod, or “rebellion,” campaign that collected signatures and organized mass protests against Mr. Morsi.

AARTSBISSCHOP VAN BANGUI OVER DRAMATISCHE SITUATIE IN CENTRAAL-AFRIKAANSE REPUBLIEK

BRUSSEL (KerkNet/RadVat) – De situatie in de Centraal-Afrikaanse Republiek is ronduit dramatisch. Vooral kinderen en vrouwen zijn slachtoffer van het aanhoudende geweld en het gebrek aan veiligheid in het land. Dat zegt mgr. Dieudonné Nzapalainga, de aartsbisschop van Bangui, in een interview met Radio Vaticaan. Samen met negen humanitaire organisaties lanceert een oproep tot dringende hulp.
"De rebellen hebben bij ons de macht genomen”, zegt aartsbisschop Nzapalainga. “Daardoor is de veiligheidssituatie enorm verslechterd. Veel mannen en vrouwen zijn gevlucht en zijn bang om terug te keren naar hun huizen. Wie niet weg geraakt, loopt groot gevaar. En niet alleen vanwege het wapengeweld. Het regenseizoen is namelijk begonnen en dat betekent een verhoogd risico op malaria. Terwijl zo goed als elke medische zorg ontbreekt!"

Meer dan 60.000 kinderen en hun families lijden aan ernstig voedseltekort. Ongeveer een miljoen kinderen gaan niet naar school. Mgr. Nzapalainga: "Er zijn zoveel jongeren die wapens dragen en de straat opgaan. Ze blokkeren zelfs de humanitaire corridors. Het is een vicieuze cirkel. De jeugd, die de toekomst van het land uitmaakt, blokkeert degenen die het land een toekomst willen geven. Humanitaire hulpverleners zijn bang om hier te komen. "

“Jonge meisjes zijn slachtoffer van misbruik, vooral van seksueel geweld in hun kindertijd en van kindhuwelijken", zegt aartsbisschop Nzapalainga. Hij vreest dat het drama zich wel eens zou kunnen verspreiden naar de Centraal-Afrikaanse buurlanden: "Ons land is verdeeld. Er is geen duidelijke regelgevende overheid. We hebben veel te veel facties en groeperingen. Er is ook het risico dat onze jongeren naar de ons omringende landen trekken om daar het regime te destabiliseren. Dit kan dus een invloed hebben op landen als Tsjaad, Kameroen, Congo Brazzaville, de Democratische Republiek Congo, Zuid-Sudan en Sudan."

President François Bozize van de Centraal-Afrikaanse Republiek werd in een staatsgreep in maart van dit jaar afgezet. Djotodia Michel, de leider van de islamitische rebellenalliantie Seleka, nam de macht over. Ongeveer de helft van de bevolking in de Centraal-Afrikaanse Republiek zijn christenen. Het Vaticaan volgt de situatie in het land op de voet. Kardinaal Fernando Filoni, de prefect van de Congregatie voor de Evangelisatie van de Volkeren, liet zich eerder van de week nog door aartsbisschop Nzapalainga over de huidige situatie informeren.
