The Saudis loved that the Brotherhood was anti-communist and anti–Arab nationalist.

Hence, a group of activists, intellectuals, architects, conservationists artists and others have recently launched a campaign to appeal to the director general of UNESCO to take all steps that would limit the worsening of the dangers faced by the humanitarian heritage in Syria, in order to provide all means of protection to all types of heritage sites and assets in Syria, including Syrian various ancient manuscripts and artifacts, considered among the oldest in the world.

The campaign was designed to raise awareness of the destruction, burning and looting of the architectural and cultural heritage and artistic sites and assets in Syria, such as the destruction and burning committed in the historic markets in the city of Aleppo, the Citadel of Aleppo, Krak des Chevaliers in Homs, archaeological sites and ancient monuments in Homs, Hama and the extreme dangers on Idlib’s ancient markets and other Christian and Muslim heritage sites.

The group emphasized that it should be understood that their appeal does not diminish the gravity of civilian casualties, including children, but rather emphasizes the extent to which the destruction in Syria affects human heritage and culture.

Los van de mogelijke achtergrond of motieven van de auteur, inhoudelijk heeft hij een sterk punt. Arabische leiders wentelen al decennialang alle problemen af op Israël, het kolonialisme en de kruistochten.

Israël is niet het grote probleem voor al die landen.
Maar wanneer je over Israël spreekt dan spreek je over de VS en dan worden de problemen al veel groter.

Israel zou helemaal niet het probleem moeten zijn, maar werd door de Arabische landen als gemeenschappelijke vijand opgezet als afleiding van de zware interne problemen die nooit zijn getackeld. Ook vandaag nog. De VS wordt als beste vriend van Israel maar vooral ook als locomotief van de Vrije Westerse Wereld aanzien als de vijand.

Het zielige is dat ze hun les niet leren. De Arabische Lente was een opportuniteit, maar het wordt een Islamitische Winter die weer eens focust op haat en aggressivitet tegen Israel, en bij uitbreiding de VS, in plaats van te concentreren op het oplossen van de eigen problemen en ontwikkelen van de eigen bevolkingen. Waarmee ze weer eens vertrokken zijn voor een lange periode van gruwel en miserie. En de schuld weer gaan schuiven in de schoenen van Israel, en bij uitbreiding de VS.

Ondertussen blijft Israel verder gaan met haar onwaarschijnlijke vooruitgang en voorsprong op nagenoeg alle gebied. Of hoe de auteur het beschreef:

Met als enige spijt dat ze haar uitgestrekte buurlanden en diens bevolkingen niet kan helpen meeprofiteren van haar uitzonderlijke prestaties, om er de mooiste en meest geavanceerde regio van te maken, zeg maar het kopieren van 'mirakel Israel' van Marokko tot Afghanisan. Alleen maar omdat de moslimwereld de verkeerde keuzes blijft maken.
