![]() Iedereen akkoord met deze analyse :
http://www.free-lebanon.com/LFPNews/...Jan2/jan2.html ? oa : . Democracies will not work in the Middle East, only military regimes will survive. Make sure to support some pro-US regimes and not Islamic ones. The reality of what America is doing in Iraq is frightening as it relies on a Shiaa "Democracy," an oxymoron Zal dit even in de Irak thread plakken ook. Hier wat er gebeurd ondertussen: The Security Chronology of Events: After Hariri Assassination Beirut : Massive presence of Lebanese Army troops all over Beirut. The Army is installing checkpoints, controlling cars, and preventing any breakout of trouble . East Beirut : 30 to 40 Christian Lebanese Forces members were apprehended by the Syrian backed Security Forces and sent to the Lebanese Ministry of Defence for "interrogation" procedures . Is Syria trying to blame the murder on the Christian militia, or it is saber rattling to remind the Christian underground not to do anything? Tripoli - Sidon: Thousands of Sunnis protesters took to the streets in the city of Tripoli and North Lebanon and thousands demonstrated in Southern Lebanon city of Sidon. They burned tires, shouted slogans against President Lahoud demanding his resignation and burned Syrian President Bashar al-Assad pictures in the streets . A Sunni crowd assaulted Syrian workers with sticks and stones in Sidon .The Sunnis blame Syria for Hariri's death. Beirut : In Beirut, the Sunni controlled quarters are very tense, the situation was described as "explosive." Many Sunni and Druze groups of youth are considering attacking Government buildings as a gesture of defiance. The Baath Party offices in Beirut were attacked with stones and sticks . Discussions were picked up in the Intelligence circles in Lebanon that there will soon br a Christian personality assassinated in Lebanon. Syria is trying to create a civil war before making any withdrawal. One Syrian official was quoted as saying the Lebanese Army is not capable of maintaining Law and Order in the country when the Syrian Army leaves. Christian and Druze political leadership are taking extra caution measures. The "Amal" military wing, {Shiite formation} have opened a military training camp in the village of " Taraya" in the Bekaa Valley on the border with Syria and is " training" its members.

![]() De begrafenis gezien door de syrische bril van de oogdokter in Damascus:
Hariri's funeral procession Beirut, Feb 16 (SANA) corpses of former Premier Rafik al-Hariri and the other six men who were accompanying him were laid to rest at Mohammad al-Amin mosque, downtown Beirut. Funeral procession of Hariri began in Beirut on Wednesday within a mode of sadness and grief. The wide-range public funeral procession started in Qoreitem to the capital’s streets. Hundreds of thousands of people from all Lebanese cities and districts turned out for Hariri’s burial. Arab and international delegations arrived in Beirut to offer condolences for al-Hariri’s family. Lebanese security forces and army convoyed the procession to protect the participants. Syrian Vice President Abdulhalim Khaddam took part at the funderal procession and offered condolences to Hariri's family Batoul/ S.Y Wat er echt gebeurde: Wednesday, February 16, 2005 Angry citizens storm Lebanon's streets By Mohammed Zaatari Demonstrators took to the streets across Lebanon to protest against the assassination of former Premier Rafik Hariri. The strongest condemnation of the killing came from Hariri's hometown of Sidon, where angry demonstrators blocked roads with barricades of burning tires sending billows of black smoke rising into the air. Demonstrators chanted slogans against Syria and the pro-Damascus Lebanese government, including: "Bashar Assad, what do you want from us? Take your soldiers and leave," and "We will not fear speaking out. We don't want to see [President] Emile Lahoud." Demonstrators also carried banners reading: "The leader of the Arab nation has fallen" and "They assassinated you because you were the hope of this country." Venting their frustration and rage at the closest target, dozens of demonstrators attacked Syrian workers, lightly wounding five before police intervened. Ali Sharif, an official from the Hariri Foundation, attempted to calm the crowd, asking the army to help put out the numerous fires and re-open the roads, but demonstrators only closed them again, throwing stones at Internal Security Forces personnel. "They killed Hariri," said Khodr Abu Sultaniyya. "Syria has killed him," and added: "It has to leave Lebanon." Amid anti-Syria slogans, Hajja Hassiba Sayyad said: "Our father died, the man who taught our children died. Why did they kill him?" A group of youths with their hands and faces painted black shouted: "Syria, you have painted our days in black. Let [Premier Omar] Karami laugh and let Lahoud remain sitting on his chair, it is the biggest crime." Meanwhile, swarms of mourners paid a visit to the Hariri family's southern residence to offer their condolences. Mosques minarets blared readings from the Koran and churches rang their bells to mark the somber occasion. Several groups of thousands of demonstrators uniformly dressed in black took to the streets in the early morning, converging on Nijmeh Square and continued on to Hariri's brother, Shafiq's, residence. Further south, the Nabatieh area mourned Hariri's death by lowering all Lebanese flags to half mast. The village's Christian and Muslim clerics joined other officials in labeling the assassination as being against the country's stability and security. In measures aimed at maintaining the peace, the army was placed on high alert throughout the country, as troops took to major intersections and surrounded government buildings to protect against potential attacks by angry Hariri supporters. In Beirut, all government departments were closed as well as banks, schools, universities, shops, cafes and cinemas. Some of the capital's streets, which are usually crammed with tourists and shoppers, were empty. The capital seemed a ghost town, with no sign of the usual bustling crowds and traffic. It seemed that everyone was gathered throughout the day at the site, in the heart of Beirut's luxury hotel district to observe the damage and show solidarity for the slain billionaire and politician. Late Tuesday, a large crowd gathered at the assassination site with hundreds of lit candles and silence to commemorate a beloved leader. According to Nawaf Abu-Akl, a Druze sheikh from the Chouf watching workers at the scene: "It's a vile and cowardly act. This man has done so much for his country and this is why they killed him." In the Bekaa, Baalbek bore witness to a massive demonstration staged outside the Serail. Demonstrators carried pictures of Hariri and raised black flags, condemning the assassination and calling for exposing the perpetrators. The Islamic Center hall was open for mourners. In Tripoli and other northern areas, black and Lebanese flags were raised alongside pictures of Hariri and countless banners. Some 5,000 people responded to the call for demonstrations by Hariri's Future Movement, headed by Tripoli MPs Mohammed Safadi, Mosbah Ahdab and Mohammed Kabbara; Minyeh MP Ahmed Fatfat; and the representative of the Future Movement in the North, former Minister Samir Jisr. After marching through the city, demonstrators gathered outside the Future Movement's offices, where officials were receiving condolences. Demonstrators and mourners alike considered the former premier's assassination a "disaster" and a "national loss," and stressed the need to preserve national unity. In Akkar, Hariri supporters expressed their grief by burning tires on the main roads in Abdeh, Bourj al-Arab and other areas. Black flags were also raised at the Abdeh Roundabout at the southern entrance of Akkar and on Hariri's Future Movement center in Halba. In Bsharri, priests read a statement from the Maronite Patriarchate Secretariat, which urged the Lebanese to unify ranks and raise their awareness. In addition, the Beddawi and Al-Bared Palestinian refugee camps declared a three-day general strike to condemn the assassination. A Fatah-Intifada official in the North, Abu Yasser Bassem, said on behalf of Palestinian factions and popular committees in the area that the assassination "targeted Lebanon's unity, Arab identity and stability." The Chouf also observed a general mourning with black ribbons and flags throughout the area. The Progressive Socialist Party raised banners stressing its loyalty to Hariri reading: "We call for referring the criminals before the International Criminal Courts and refuse to put it in (Justice Minister Adnan) Addoum's drawer," as well as "We will not leave Lebanon in the hands of killers and criminals" and "The dawn of freedom is coming." The Future Movement also raised banners in Iqlim al-Kharroub and began preparations for "Loyalty Day," to be held in Beirut on Wednesday. The movement said that it will provide transportation to the funeral in Beirut.

- de officiele site van de oogmeester van Damascus: Former US Ambassador Denies any Syrian involvement in Assassination Washington, Feb. 16 (SANA) Former US Ambassador to Syria Theodore Kattouf on Wednesday denied Syria had any relation into the assassination of former Lebanese Premier Rafik Hariri. "I know Syria very well where I have lived for many years, during which I met Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and other senior officials… I would confirm that Syria doesn’t embrace any act that could harm Hariri," the Ambassador told a US TV Program in Washington. He warned against serious dangers resulting from possibilities of escalating the situation in Lebanon where some political and social parties use media exaggerated formulas. En wat Kattouf echt gezegd heeft: THEODORE KATTOUF: You can hear almost any conspiracy theory you want in the Middle East. I for one would rule out Israel. I don't think the Israelis, they, their relations with the U.S. and such; this is not an act of Israel maar "even verzwegen wordt, zoals But I do think, I agree that Iran, I think Hezbollah, the pro Iranian militia group in south Lebanon and sometimes in the past had threatened Hariri. The Syrian press had become more vocal about Hariri of late in a very negative fashion. Meer over de libanese reacties op: http://www.dailystar.com.lb/article....ticle_id=12752
