Yeah sure.

Het is niet zo dat "het probleem al 20 jaar bekend" was, het is eerder zo dat het de laatste 20 jaar juist geen probleem was. Brandstof was relatief goedkoop, en wegens de economische groei was had de doorsnee automobilist best wat meer uit te geven, en had dus liever een wat grotere auto, met meer snufjes, dan een zuinigere auto.
Als de consument werkelijk wakker lag van brandstofverbruik dan zou Mercedes zijn Smart niet met verlies moeten verkopen. (Met 100$ en meer per vat echer zou dat wel eens kunnen veranderen)
