The Marvelous Old-World of Willem Dafoe :

https://youtu.be/cJsLTGnZ4lA?t=4

An exploration of the U.S. state of Wisconsin, birthplace and origin of actor Willem Dafoe. This area was explored extensively in the first explorations of the channel. What Old-World evidence remains in this state and why is the Midwest of the United States overlooked either intentionally or unintentionally?

00:00:00 Willem Dafoe
00:01:05 Milwaukee
00:29:32 Madison-Capital
00:44:40 Appleton
00:51:37 Green Bay
00:56:46 Monadnocks
00:59:34 Unique Structures in Wisconsin

Ik heb enorm genoten van deze exploratie, buiten de ongelooflijk mooie beelden, wordt LA ook steeds een betere verteller, gevat, to the point en grappig.

Citaat:
The Louisiana Purchase Exposition, informally known as the St. Louis World's Fair, was an international exposition held in St. Louis, Missouri, United States, from April 30 to December 1, 1904. Local, state, and federal funds totaling $15 million (equivalent to $509 million in 2023)[1] were used to finance the event. More than 60 countries and 43 of the then-45 American states maintained exhibition spaces at the fair, which was attended by nearly 19.7 million people.

Citaat:
From the point of view of the memory of the average person who attended the fair, it primarily promoted entertainment, consumer goods, and popular culture.[2] The monumental Greco-Roman architecture of this and other fairs of the era did much to influence permanent new buildings and master plans of major cities.

Citaat:
The fair's 1,200-acre (4.9 km2; 1.9 sq mi) site, designed by George Kessler,[10] was located at the present-day grounds of Forest Park and on the campus of Washington University, and was the largest fair (in area) to date. There were over 1,500 buildings, connected by some 75 miles (121 km) of roads and walkways. It was said to be impossible to give even a hurried glance at everything in less than a week. The Palace of Agriculture alone covered some 20 acres (81,000 m2).

Citaat:
As with the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893, all but one of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition's grand, neo-Classical exhibition palaces were temporary structures, designed to last but a year or two. They were built with a material called "staff," a mixture of plaster of Paris and hemp fibers, on a wood frame.

The Liège International Exposition (French: Exposition Universelle et Internationale de Liège) was a world's fair held in Liège, Belgium, from 27 April to 6 November 1905[1][2]416? just 8 years after a Belgian exposition held in Brussels. Intended to show Liège's industrial importance it also marked 75 years of Belgian Independence[1] and 40 years of Leopold II's reign.

Citaat:
The Palais des Beaux Arts building was left to the city, and housed the Musee d'Art Moderne et d'Art Contemporaine.[2]179? After closing in 2013, in May 2016 it reopened, with a contemporary glass extension, as La Boverie.[5]

Citaat:
How were massive structures with impossible detail constructed in a matter of months… with no modern tools, no roads, and no evidence of struggle? Today, we’re exposing buildings that don’t fit the timeline, forgotten tunnel systems, and stories they hope we won’t question. If you’re ready to see the cracks in history’s narrative—and what might be buried beneath our feet—you won’t want to miss this.

The New Mexico Territorial State Capitol, Santa Fe :

Citaat:
In 1886, a new building replaced the antiquated Palace of the Governors as the territorial capitol. Four stories high, the monumental building was constructed from sandstone quarried in Lamy and topped by colossal bronze statues representing Liberty, Justice, Commerce and Industry.
Citaat:
Six years after its opening, on the evening of May 12, 1892, a fire began and destroyed the structure, though bystanders were able to save most of the archives, books, and furniture.

Citaat:
The Pan-American Exposition was a world's fair held in Buffalo, New York, United States, from May 1 through November 2, 1901.[1] The fair occupied 350 acres.

Citaat:
The Pan-American Exposition, often referred to as "The Rainbow City", received national attention in the press and elsewhere a couple of years before, during and after it occurred[5] During the course of the exposition more than 8,000,000 visitors came to the event.
Citaat:
The advent of the alternating current power transmission system in the US allowed designers to light the Exposition in Buffalo using power generated 25 mi (40 km) away at Niagara Falls.

Citaat:
When the fair ended, the contents of the grounds were sold to the Chicago House Wrecking Company[38] of Chicago for US$92,000 ($2.93 million in 2023 dollars[8]).[39] Demolition of the buildings began in March 1902, and within a year, most of the buildings were demolished.

Mijn 2 favoriete kanalen, OWE en LA doen een live over "The Great Panic of 1893".
