Achter vier Duitse SUVs. De VW Teramont op 4 is de Chinese Touareg, het spreekt voor zichzelf dat al die ICE-SUVs die Tesla nog voorafgaan staan meestal benzine en benzine-hybrides zijn, terwijl Tesla enkel FEV verkoopt. The Tesla Model Y may be new in China’s domestic auto market, and its production at Giga Shanghai may still be in the early stages. Still, the all-electric crossover is already making an impact in the country’s auto segment. In February’s premium SUV market alone, the Model Y managed to rank as China’s fifth-best-selling vehicle, closely tailing formidable competitors from Das Auto.

Based on recent sales data, Tesla was able to sell 4,630 units of the Made-in-China Model Y in February, ranking it just below the Volkswagen Teramont, which sold 4,633 units. The top three premium SUVs in China last month were the Mercedes-Benz GLC, which sold 8,557, the BMW X3, which sold 8,663, and the Audi Q5, which sold 10,529 units in February.

Interestingly, the Model Y closed in on its German SUV rivals in a 28-day month, which also happened to host seven days of the Chinese New Year. Because of this, Gigafactory Shanghai was able to operate for only about 21 days in February. The fact that the Model Y became the fifth-best-selling premium SUV despite these circumstances bodes well for the all-electric crossover.

Tesla China President Tom Zhu specifically noted during a previous interview that the Model Y ramp in Gigafactory Shanghai is following a pace that’s notably faster than that the already-impressive Model 3 last year. For context, the Made-in-China Model 3 started consumer deliveries in early January 2020, and by the end of the year, the vehicle was already being exported to European territories.

Omdat VW de EV-quote niet haalt in China koopt het bij Tesla CO2-credits, om boetes te vermijden of te beperken.

Ttz de Chinese automaker FAW-Volkswagen doet dat.
Nog maar heel recent einde 2020 bieden ze ook de VW ID.4 aan, de Audi e-tron ook pas sinds 2020, sinds 2019 de e-Golf. Maar dat zal veel te weinig zijn voor de 12% quote. Ook hun plug-in-hybrides zullen te weinig opbrengen.

A new report states that Tesla is selling electric car credits to Volkswagen in China, as the latter hasn’t managed to catch up to the zero-emission mandate yet.

In 2018, China implemented a zero-emission mandate to force automakers to build more electric vehicles in the country.

By the end of last year, automakers had to have 12% of the vehicles they sell in China be electric or face fines.

Tesla has made a lot of money from these mandates in other markets, and now we learn that it might start to make money from the Chinese EV mandate.

Reuters reports that Volkswagen’s FAW-Volkswagen Chinese joint venture is going to buy credits from Tesla:

To help meet increasingly tough targets, Volkswagen’s joint venture with state-owned Chinese automaker FAW, or FAW-Volkswagen, has agreed to buy credits from Tesla, the sources said, declining to be named as the talks were private.

The report doesn’t disclose how many credits they plan to buy from Tesla, but the price per credit agreed upon is reportedly around 3,000 yuan per credit, which is the equivalent of around $450.

Tesla gets five credits per electric vehicle in the country, and the automaker sold 140,000 vehicles in China last year.

Volkswagen has confirmed that it plans to comply with the Chinese mandate through the sale of its own electric vehicles, but it also said that it might buy credits from competitors when needed.

The German automaker has already invested heavily in the country to produce its own electric vehicles since the mandate has been announced, but FAW-Volkswagen sells over 2 million cars per year in China, and therefore, it needs a lot of electric vehicles to achieve the 12% mandate.

Tesla hasn’t reported revenue from the mandate in China, but the automaker has already made billions from similar schemes in the US and Europe.

Last year, the automaker reported over $1.5 billion in revenue from the sale of regulatory credits.

Most famously, FCA, now part of Stellantis, is reportedly going to pay Tesla $2 billion for credits in Europe as the automaker lags behind the industry when it comes to electric vehicles.

Strong Tesla sales are a ‘drop the mic’ moment, analyst says

Tesla Inc.’s quarterly sales zoomed past expectations, leading one analyst to call them a “drop the mic” number despite earlier Wall Street worries about chip and parts shortages that have plagued the auto industry.

Tesla TSLA “yet again defied the skeptics and bears,” Dan Ives with Wedbush said in a note Friday.

The strength in the quarter was driven by Model 3 and Model Y sales, he said. Wall Street had braced for the impact of shortages on Tesla sales, making the above-expectations sales “a massive homerun in the eyes of the bulls,” Ives said.

Tesla earlier Friday reported that first-quarter deliveries, its proxy for sales, totaled 184,800 vehicles, blowing past the FactSet consensus of 168,000. The Silicon Valley electric-car maker said it produced just over 180,000 vehicles in the period.

Tesla sold 182,780 of its Model 3 sedan and Model Y compact SUV. The FactSet consensus was for 122,600 Model 3s and about 10,000 Model Ys.

Maandagmorgen gaan we het weten, reeds in de voorbeurs verwacht ik minstens +10%. Diegene die aandelen hebben mogen nu al voorvreugde hebben.

Beter dan verwacht, maar analisten hadden hun verwachtingen al verschillende maanden naar onder bijgesteld.
Sommigen waren echt aan het sandbaggen dat ze zelfs meer bearish waren dan de bears.

En gezien de capaciteit volgens $TSLA op 1050k wagens ligt, is die 184k nogal relatief.

Musk is dan wel weer betrapt op een serieuze leugen (maar weerom zal er niet opgetreden worden).
In de call in januari zei hij letterlijk dat de nieuwe (refreshed) model X en S effectief in productie waren met het oog op levering in februari, maar volgens de 8-k van gisteren is het productiecijfer 0.
