3 december 2012 - Iranian medicine has been saving the lives of Americans while the illegal US-led sanctions against the Islamic Republic have been adversely affecting the lives of many Iranian patients. A Sunday report on the website of the Wall Street Journal said the US Defense Department needs Iranian-researched and -produced medicine to treat the foreign forces in Afghanistan who get bitten by “Oxus cobras, Haly's pit vipers” and other snakes peculiar to southwest Asia.


The Pentagon has found itself in need of Iranian medicine to save the lives of US soldiers in Afghanistan.

toont weeral eens dat Iran een eigen industrie heeft en daardoor een voorbeeld is voor heel het Midden Oosten hoe het anders kan dan export van grondstoffen en import van al de rest. Liever ziet het westen echter de 'boekenwurmen' uit Saoudi Arabië. Die zullen afhankelijk blijven van westerse producten denkt men.

Daarom moet Iran kapot. Het is ('was' misschien met heel die economische oorlog tegen het land) een 'slecht' voorbeeld dat de koloniale ontvoogding van het Midden Oosten zou kunnen inluiden.

Het Westen is bang van de ontvoogdingsbewegingen in het zuiden. Het koloniale ideaal is nog steeds wat aanwezig bij de westerse elite. Die weg lijdt echter nergens naar toe voor het westen...behalve naar isolatie en ondergang.

In a surprising—and irony-rich—byproduct of the Afghan war, the Pentagon finds itself dependent on a scientific research arm of the Iranian government to treat bites by Oxus cobras, Haly's pit vipers and other snakes peculiar to the battlefields of southwest Asia.

Despite U.S.-led international sanctions designed to paralyze Iran's trade with the outside world, the Defense Department buys the drugs through a middleman, with orders totaling 115 vials at $310 apiece since January 2011.

Medical guidance issued by U.S. Central Command says drugs made by Iran's Razi Vaccine & Serum Research Institute "should be the first line of antivenin therapy" because they counter venoms of the most-common Afghan snakes, said a U.S. officer who has read it.

For their part, the Iranians say they are willing to sell Razi drugs to anyone. "We make this to save lives, and it doesn't matter if the person is Iranian or Afghan or American," said Hadi Zareh, lead researcher in Razi's antivenin department. "We are happy to hear we have saved a person's life, even an American soldier."

Prompted by questions from The Wall Street Journal, Pentagon lawyers are investigating whether the purchases violate sanctions rules and require a waiver from the U.S. Treasury Department. "We are working with the Department of Defense to confirm the details of these purchases to ensure compliance" with sanctions regulations, a Treasury spokesman said.

Mr. Zareh said the U.S.-led sanctions campaign, intended to discourage Iran from pursuing nuclear weapons, has had the side effect of making it harder for Razi to produce the very drugs the American military is purchasing. The institute, he said in an interview, is finding it "very difficult to buy chemical products for the laboratories and some of the equipment that we need. Prices have also increased because of sanctions."

11 november 2012 - Several recent top hit Iranian movies have been selected to be screened at the 2012 edition of Kolkata International Film Festival in India. Some Iranian cinematic productions created by the country’s prominent filmmakers such as Dariush Mehrjui, Asghar Farhadi, Abbas Kiarostami and Ali Mosaffa are to be presented at the Competition section of the festival. Farhadi’s Academy Award winning movie A Separation and Mosaffa’s Last Step will also represent Iranian cinema at the 18th edition of the Indian festival. 24 november 2012 - The 31st edition of Iran’s most important film presentation and competition Fajr International Film Festival is set to be held in the country’s capital of Tehran. Iran has programmed to mount its internationally renowned film festival from 31 January to 10 February 2013, ISNA has reported. Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture, the annual event is comprised of two competitive sections as well as two non competitive categories. Established in 1982, the festival is to host the 16th International Iranian Film Market (IFM) while a large number of reputed Iranian and international film distributors and buyers are slated to flock to the event. 553 screen productions in different genres from various countries across the globe were submitted to International Cinema competition section of last year’s edition.

3 december 2012 - Iranian cartoonist Jamal Rahmati’s animated movie Game has been awarded at the 2012 Baku International Youth and Student Film Festival in Azerbaijan. Rahmati’s screen production Game won the Best Animation Film Award at the 8th edition of the festival. Born in 1972, Rahmati has participated in many international events and has been honored in some of them such as grabbing the First Prize of Poaui international exhibition in Brazil, 2002, and Winner of Winners Prize from Eurohomor in Italy in 2003.
