The AP caption described Hunka as having “fought with the First Ukrainian Division in World War II before later immigrating to Canada.” The First Ukrainian Division is another name for the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS, the military wing of the Nazi Party; the unit was also called SS Galichina.

Dat klinkt nogal contradictorisch.

Niet voor Orwell. Hoeft ook niet contradictorisch te zijn, mits niet uitgaande van een realiteits reducerend eng ideologisch denkkader.

Orwell was slimmer en vooruitziender dan het simplistische links rechts denkkader waarin jammer genoeg velen gevangen zitten tegenwoordig. De drie gebieden in 1984 zijn allen totalitair maar op een andere manier.

volgens mij is orwell een waarschuwing tegen elke vorm van totalitarisme, of het nu Nazisme, Putinisme, of Ecogreenisme , Ambtenarisme is...

In Belgie is een ambtonarocratie, die regels maakt voor de burgers die niet van toepassing zijn voor zichzelf (een kenmerk beschreven door Orwell) zowat overal van toepassing

Dus voor iedereen tenzij voor zichzelf..

that is truly significant. As Goldstein comments in his book in Part 2, Chapter 9,
by keeping the people in this constant state, the party is able to perpetuate an
unequal distribution of wealth. It is this unequal distribution which keeps the

Voor mij is het eerder tegen een crypto-totalitarisme, een dat beweert "voor uw goed" te zijn. Het eerder "open en brutaal" totalitarisme zoals dat van de nazi's valt daar volgens mij niet onder, die zijn te open en te eerlijk.

Ik denk niet dat het het totalitarisme zelf was dat geviseerd was, maar het totalitarisme verkocht als het Grote Goed.

Het communisme en het ecofascisme vallen daaronder. De katholieke kerk waarschijnlijk ook. De islam niet, bijvoorbeeld. Die is openlijk vijandig en agressief, zoals de nazi's. Die hebben niet dat plakkerig-zwemerig " 't is voor uw goed" aspect.

In werkelijkheid kan er geen vrede zijn tot aan de totale onderwerping. We waren daar bijna, en dan zijn we soft geworden.
