The Leland Hotel, Winnipeg, Canada :

Built between 1883 and 1884 on a design by local architects Charles Arnold Barber and Earle William Barber, the Leland was one of Winnipeg’s most luxurious hotels, featuring 100 rooms, hot and cold running water, billiard room, barber shop, and reading rooms.

Four storeys added in 1892 were destroyed in a fire in 1913.

Designated in May 1985 as a municipal historic site, the structure was de-designated in May 1998, and was subsequently destroyed by an arson fire in January 1999.

In 1882, the college occupied an elaborate building on Ellice Avenue in Winnipeg designed by architect Charles Arnold Barber

Needing more space, in 1932 a two-storey brick and stone addition designed by architects Arthur Edward Cubbidge and Edward Parkinson was constructed by the firm of Couture and Toupin on the north side of the original College building.

The Colonial Mutual Life (CML) building is a heritage listed Sydney landmark on the corner of Pitt Street and Martin Place, and sits opposite the GPO. It was designed by well-known Sydney architect John Kirkpatrick and built in 1892-93 in the Victorian Free Classical style.

In1960 vervangen door dit :

The interiors of the original building were equally superb, featuring some of the most impressive examples of stonemasonry and woodwork ever seen. The foyers and stairwells featured Italian and Belgian marble. The very best cedarwood was joined with such skill that not one nail was used! Even the fireplaces displayed the most intricate and ornate detailing. Although the building was structurally sound, it had become expensive to maintain and was demolished in 1960.

Though construction of the present library began in 1859 and the collection arrived in Ottawa in 1866, work was halted in 1861 and was not completed until 1876

Dus 17 jaar met een pauze, hoe lang? Wanneer begon de constructie weer?

Around 1869, the builders discovered that they didn't have the technical knowledge to build the domed roof

meaning that Thomas Fairbairn Engineering Co. Ltd. of Manchester had to be contracted to provide a prefabricated dome within a few weeks

Further, in 1883, the library's 300 gas lights were converted to electricity.

Ok...

Within only 12 years, the entire roof was stripped of its slate shingles in a tornado that hit Parliament Hill in 1888; since then, the roof has been clad in copper.

The library's contents grew over the next five decades and were saved from the 1916 fire that destroyed the majority of the Centre Block

Fire eventually broke out in 1952, in the library's cupola, and caused extensive damage through smoke and water.

Bayard–Condict Building, NYC :

After disputes over various aspects of the planned building were resolved, United Loan began erecting the Bayard Building in December 1897.

The building was completed in December 1899.

The tenth floor was severely damaged in a fire in March 1900

Built in 1892-93 to a design by William H. Hume for William Waldorf Astor, its original lessee was Ferdinand P. Earle.[1] The structure was 234 feet (71 m) in height with 17 stories, making it the "tallest hotel structure in the world".

Renamed the Hotel Netherland in 1908, the neo-Romanesque structure was razed in 1927

The design of the building was entrusted to Edward Middleton Barry, the architect of Covent Garden Theatre, and the classic design plan was completed by 1861.[3][4][5] The original plans had to be altered because the sloping streets on the sides of the theatre had not been taken into consideration. This resulted in a terrace being added on the side of Strada Reale (nowadays Republic Street) designed by Maltese architects.[6]

The building of the 206 feet (63 m) by 112 feet (34 m) site[citation needed] started in 1862, after what was the Casa della Giornata was demolished.

After four years, the Opera House, with a seating capacity of 1,095 and 200 standing, was ready for the official opening on 9 October 1866.

The theatre was not to last long; on 25 May 1873,[8] a mere six years after its opening, it was brought to a premature end by a fire.

It was decided to rebuild the theatre, and after the issuing of tenders for the work and a lot of arguing whether the front had to be changed or not, the theatre was ready. On 11 October 1877

En op 4 jaar staat het erweer!

Daarna kwam de Luftwaffe in 1942.

All that remained of the Opera House were the terrace and parts of the columns.

Hotel Manhattan, NYC :

Built in 1895–1896

It was razed in 1961 to make way for an office tower.

Built by Marc Eidlitz & Son, there were 16.5 stories, with 14 stories above the street level. The electrical contractor was C. L. Eidlitz.
