Greek universities are paralyzed. More than half of faculties nation wide (Universities and Colleges) are occupied by the students who refuse the privatization of Greek education system. Every day General Assemblies are organized and new faculties are added to the list. At side of the students we find also the university lecturer, primary and secondary education teachers and several trade-unions.
The growing movement against privatisation of tertiary education in Greece is exploding according to this report on UK Indymedia:
The first national meeting had 200 students of all Greece representing their committee of occupation while in the second, one week later, there where more than 2000 students.
Since the beginning of the movement there are demonstrations organized every Wednesday. The participation in these demonstrations reflects the national tendency. On Wednesday January 24, third national event, the number of demonstrators at the national level reached 40000. In Athens there were 20000 demonstrators, in Thessaloniki 8000 to10000 and in other cities 10000.
Two weeks ago demonstrations turned into anti-state rioting which included the burning of four cars, a shop and the hurling of hundreds of petrol bombs. One student at Panteion University has recounted that, “Lecture theatres are alive with political debate that goes well beyond the immediate threats to the education system to question the entire agenda of the government.”


Greek riot police clashed with self-styled anarchist youths in Athens on Wednesday, turning the city centre into a battle-ground of billowing smoke for hours.
The youths hurled hundreds of petrol bombs at police, burning four cars and one shop. Police retaliated with several rounds of teargas that choked up the capital's streets.
"Five policemen have suffered light burns from the petrol bombs," one police official said.
The clashes started when about 30 youths broke off from an otherwise peaceful march against an education reform law and attacked riot police with petrol bombs.
About 9,000 students, educators and civil servants marched through the city to oppose the law that allows the creation of private universities in Greece, which protesters say will commercialise education and make it hard for the poor to attend college.
The conservative government and main opposition socialists back the bill, saying it will give much-needed competition to Greek state universities and improve higher education.

Nu maar hopen dat de staat niet desondanks de duidelijke misnoegen de privatisering toch door het volk hun strot ramt.

En ja het is weer enorm frustrerend om te zien hoe sectaire bewegingen weer met hun geweld het excuus bij uitstek vormen waar de politie en media op staan te wachten.
