Peruvian president welcomes senior Chinese party official Peruvian President Alan Garcia on Friday held a formal welcome ceremony for Li Changchun, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), who arrived in Lima for a goodwill visit to the South American country.
In his welcome speech, Garcia said it is one of Peru's goals to become China's top trade, economic and social partner in the region.
Peru supports China's cause of reunification, he added.
"We are always willing to support China as one nation, and to witness China's vast social development. All nations should see this development as positive," said the president.
After the ceremony, Garcia invited Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, to a meeting to discuss bilateral topics and areas of possible cooperation.
During his five-day stay in Peru, Li is also expected to visit the Lima City Hall, where Mayor Luis Castaneda will declare him a special guest.
Peru, which has the largest overseas Chinese community in the region, is one of the first Latin American countries that established diplomatic ties with China.
The country is the last leg of Li's Latin America trip, which has taken him to Mexico, Venezuela, Suriname and Ecuador.
After visiting Peru, Li will pay a visit to Samoa, an island nation in the South Pacific.

China to expand cooperation with Ukraine, says top legislator Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo on Friday said that China hopes to expand cooperation with Ukraine to a wider scope covering investment, economic and technological areas.
Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NCP), made the remarks in a meeting with Ukraine's Parliament Speaker Oleksander Moroz in Beijing.
Noting that great potential lies in the economic cooperation between China and Ukraine, Wu said the parliaments of the two countries should, in particular, serve as the go-between to facilitate the cooperation between strong enterprises of the two countries.
Wu said China's NPC is willing to work together with Ukraine's Supreme Council (name for the country's parliament) to strengthen multi-level exchanges, conduct communication on legislation, enhance pragmatic economic and trade collaboration and deepen mutual political trust so as to bring the whole Sino-Ukrainian relations to a new high.
Wu also expressed his appreciation for Ukraine's adherence to one-China policy.
Moroz said the Supreme Council of Ukraine is an active supporter and propellent for moving ahead the friendly and cooperative relationship between the two countries.
The close exchanges between the parliaments of the two countries are indispensable to the general development of Sino-Ukrainian relations,
Moroz stressed, adding that "If we compare the overall bilateral relations of the two countries to a tree, the inter-parliamentary relationship is a branch of the tree".
At the invitation of Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top advisory body, Moroz is making his first China visit from March 28 to 31.

China and Russia plan joint Mars mission BEIJING - China and Russia plan to launch a joint mission to Mars in 2009 to scoop up samples from the Red Planet and one of its moons, a Chinese scientist was quoted as saying on Wednesday.
Russia will launch the spacecraft, while China will provide the survey equipment to carry out the unmanned exploration, Ye Peijian, a senior scientist at the Chinese Academy of Space Technology, told a meeting in Beijing, according to the official Xinhua News Agency. Other Chinese news reports identified the joint mission as Russia's Phobos-Grunt (Phobos-Soil) expedition. That mission calls for an unmanned probe to be sent to the Martian moon Phobos to collect samples for return to Earth. The probe also would monitor Martian climate and the radiation environment — but earlier mission plans had not called for samples to be taken from the Martian surface itself.
The mission would be another step in China's ambitious program to jump to the forefront of space exploration.
Last month, Sun Laiyan, head of the China National Space Administration, said China would seek international cooperation as it prepares to explore Earth's moon and beyond.
China expects to launch its first lunar probe next year, state media has said. It will spend a year orbiting the moon to collect images and data on the moon's surface and environment.
In 2003, China became only the third country — after the United States and Soviet Union — to launch a man into space aboard its own rocket.
In October 2005, it sent two men into orbit, and another manned orbit is slated for 2007.

Hierboven staan weer enkele voorbeeldjes uit de afgelopen week. Niemand schijnt dit op te merken. Naast Afrika, zoekt China volop bondgenoten in Zuid-Amerika en de ex-Sovjetunie. Spoedig zal het Westen zich geïsoleerd vinden in de internationale gemeenschap. Zal het pas dan zijn dat de socialisten hier wakker worden?

Ik zie ook geen problemen...

Zeker niet als China een hechte band smeedt met Rusland... Dan kunnen we eindelijk kennis maken met die plezante regimes en afstand nemen van de grote satan...

Pas dan zullen we beseffen wat welzijn, welstand, luxe en vrije meningsuiting betekent... Nu zijn we geketend aan een vulgair onderdrukkend systeem...

De socialisten in Europa hebben wel gelijk dat Europa zich niet bezighoud met mensen en de sociale rechten. Anderzijds kun je moeilijk gaan werken aan socialisme in een gebied dat gigantische verschillen heeft. GB wil alleen maar een markt waar ze vrij hun goederen kunnen afzetten.

Europa heeft het grootste probleem dat het niet weet waar het naartoe wilt.
De US denkt nog teveel dat ze superieur zijn. Mss zijn ze dat wel op dit ogenblik maar dan komt dat omdat ze geen tegenstander hebben.

Een quote die ik ooit gelezen heb over China tenover het Westen beschrijft het probleem mss wel: "Het Westen is niet gewoon dat een ander volk(China) zich evenwaardig als ons acht." Daar zit denkt ik wel een punt in. Ons Westen denkt teveel van superioriteit tegover de rest als is dat grotendeels onbewust
