Omdat ik mensen uit Nahariya ken en hoop dat zij veilig kunnen leven. Die raketten die afgeschoten worden zijn zeker geen grap. Maar ieder dood hezbollah lid is een zegen.

Overigens die tank met dat kindje, ik durf ook wel stenen te gooien naar een tank als ik toch zeker ben dat die mij niet gaat beschieten.

interessante colum bij deze foto :

It's almost 70 years ago four grisly months of occupation in which at least 300,000 residents were tortured, raped, and murdered in Nanjing. take a look at this photo. and we here in Europe have failed to construct the memorials and museums and write the books and create the art that has been part of the surviving, healing process for other, more famous massacres. (Are we comparing massacres now? Is the holocaust commited by Hitler more inhuman as what Israel does today towards the Palestinians?)

This photo is so strange to look at that one wants, almost must, look away. There are many more, each so inhuman that it hardly seems possible humans could do such things. But if you haven't seen them, you need to. How can that man be smiling? He's holding a human head.

It reminds me of the photos taken at Abu Ghraib. sure, the scale isn't as great in Baghdad as it was in Nanjing. And U.S. soldiers merely sodomized, tortured, humiliated, and beat to death their prisoners.. they didn't chop off their heads.

But what struck me in both cases is the ability of a human being, amidst all of that cruelty and blood, to pose for the camera. Remember the picture of that girl in Abu Graib giving the thumbs up and smiling, while she is standing over the dead corpse of an Iraque man ?

The photos, separated by almost 70 years, continents and cultures and politics, are a grim reminder of what happens to people in war. They make me fear that we will never learn how to stop the even the worst of human behaviour, that anyone, even our uncles and brothers and children, even ourselves, could be capable of total depravity.

How disheartening to see the same story played out again and again, in Darfur, in Baghdad, in in Colombia, in Aceh, in Palestina,.. here, now.
They say history repeats itself and people don't learn. It's hard not to disagree with that. Take a look a the history books in Japan, and how little they mention.
The silence surrounding the Nanjing holocaust is like a second rape: silence equals complicity.

In princiepe is het easy om die dingen naar de kloten te helpen zodra ge in stedelijk of bebost gebied zit met wat cover. Gewoon dichtbij genoeg geraken en poef !

Ik snap nog steeds niet waarom die arabieren zoiets niet kunnen....

Ik snap nog steeds niet waarom die arabieren zoiets niet kunnen....

Het lukte de Hezbollah militanten af en toe wel. Ik weet zeker dat Hamas ook wel Merkavas kan uitschakelen, maar niet voldoende stootkracht kunnen geven om ze terug te laten trekken.
