Ik moet dan altijd meteen denken aan de Franse officier die absoluut de voertuigen wou uitproberen in beschonken toestand na een nacht doorzakken in de mess. Hoe we het hebben klaar gespeeld weet ik niet, maar 's ochtends was niets meer van de merken en kon de internationale voorstelling en inspectie gewoon doorgaan. Die "Ferdinand" was al een uiting van de falende Duitse oorlogsinspanning,men hoopte de tank,met zijn ingewikkelde draaiende koepel gedeeltelijk te kunnen vervangen door een soort opgevoerde "tankjager"....een minder geslaagd experiment dat ongetwijfeld vele Duitse soldaten met hun leven betaald hebben.....

Die Oekrainse dingen zien er inderdaad gelijkaardig uit,maar het lijken mij zelfaangedreven houwitzers,ook een inmiddels ouderwets geworden soort wapentuig ,iedereen,ook de US-Army, keert geleidelijk weer terug naar getrokken zware artillerie wegens de enorm verbeterde vervoersmogelijkheden (en de compactheid) in de meest onwaarschijnlijke omstandigheden tegenwoordig...

Het Belgisch leger heeft ook nog wat van die dingen staan,ik geloof niet dat ze nog veel buiten mogen komen,in de huidige taakstelling van onze strijdkrachten zijn ze volstrekt onbruikbaar geworden.

Nee, ik ben er zeker van dat het geen rabbi is. Ik had enige tijd geleden een artikel gelezen over rabbis in de IDF, maar ik kon het zo snel niet terug vinden. Wat mij altijd bij zal blijven zijn de verhalen van veldrabbis in het Oostenrijk-Hongaarse en Keizerlijk-Duiste leger. Er zijn meerdere indrukwekkende verhalen van Joods-Duitse soldaten (de Duitse Joden wouden zich immers bewijzen als meer dan die "onbetrouwbare winkelier"), en 12.000 hebben een onderscheiding gekregen, er liepen dus tamelijk veel Joden met een ijzeren kruis. Dat men die mooie ijzeren kruizen vandaag de dag soms in verband wil brengen met het nazisme vind ik zeer triest.

Het is geen zak, het is een moderne "Mitznefet". Wat dan weer neer komt op een zak op je hoofd . Het zorgt ervoor dat de contouren van je helm wegvallen, en is dus onderdeel van de camouflage.
