European news agencies are now being criticized for failing to cover what’s being seen in Iran as efforts to stifle freedom of expression.

In recent months, European satellite providers have launched a concerted campaign to silence Iran’s international broadcasters.

PressTV - Intelsat admits US behind ban on Iranian channels
27 juni 2013 - The European communications satellite service provider Intelsat has decided to remove Iranian channels, including Press TV, as of July 1 as part of an unprecedented wave of US-led attacks against Iranian media. Intelsat has admitted it is pulling the plug on Iranian channels under pressure from the United States. The satellite provider said it sought a waiver from Washington to extend the term of its agreement with Iranian channels, but the US government is determined to prevent Intelsat from doing so.

Press TV has been unable to access its YouTube account since July 25 despite the video sharing site's claim that the alternative TV channel's account has become reactivated.


"The account appears to be active (now) and you should be able to access it," said The YouTube Team in response to Press TV's weeklong queries about why the Google account it has been using for years to access its YouTube page has suddenly become disabled.

Press TV's YouTube team were unable to access the channel's popular page, which remained "disabled" by the time this report was being filed.

A large number of viewers and subscribers have emailed Press TV "to see why it's YouTube page hasn't been updated and whether the channel's been censored on the video sharing site," said Press TV newsroom director, Hamid Reza Emadi.

"We have not been able to upload any new videos since (last) Thursday. Google has disabled the channel's account without giving any explanation," Emadi said, adding that people can only see videos published a week ago on the channel's YouTube page.


Meanwhile, an article on the official website of the Israeli-American Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has accused Press TV of bypassing the West's satellite sanctions by broadcasting live via YouTube and other internet and mobile platforms.

"ADL has contacted YouTube regarding concerns about Press TV," reads the article, further noting that the station's "broadcast on YouTube comes at the a time when the United States, the European Union and others in the international community are seeking to isolate Iran."

Op het moment dat er daadwerkelijk eenoorlog uitbreekt zijn er voldoende zendamateurs om berichtgeving door te sturen. Met een 250 watt SSB kom je al een heel end en overbrug je continenten, zeker 's nachts. Er zijn wereldwijd ik weet niet hoeveel radioamateurs dus de media heb je feitelijk niet nodig. Wel een goede ontvanger, Kenwood, Icom o.i.d. (voor een bejaard 2e handsje betaal je vaak nog een dikke 200 Euro. Een nieuwe kost ergens om de 1000 tott 1500 euro. (ik praat wel over gebruik op een schip).

In geval van oorlog gan we weer gewoon analoog.

TASS - Presidents of Russia, Argentina launch RT channel Spanish programming in Argentina

NOVO-OGARYOVO, Moscow region, October 10. /TASS/. Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Cristina de Kirchner of Argentina on Thursday launched the Spanish-language programming of the Moscow-based RT satellite channel in Argentina.

The two Presidents communicated with each other by way of a televised linkup. Kirchner was in Argentina and Putin, who had just returned from a working trip to Siberia, addressed the audiences from countryside residence to the west of Moscow.

RT has become the first foreign channel to do round-the-clock broadcasting in Argentina as part of a program for development of digital TV broadcasting (Television Digital Abierta, or TDA).

Round-the-clock broadcasting in Argentina became possible as result of signing of an agreement on cooperation in the field of mass communications upon the end of Russian-Argentine summit talks in July 2014.

RT will be available in an expanded format of round-the-clock broadcasting to more than 80% of Argentine population.

RT’s Spanish version went on the air in December 2009. It became the first Russian channel broadcasting to the Spanish-speaking audiences worldwide. The event was market by nomination for the prestigious British prize Broadcast Digital Awards 2010.

RT Spanish started broadcasting in Argentina on Thursday, which makes it the first foreign TV channel on national television in the Latin America country. It will be available for over 80% of the country’s 42 mln population.

A joint initiative of the two countries was made possible by the presidents of Russia and Argentina, Vladimir Putin and Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, who inaugurated the 24/7 broadcast during a video conference.

President Putin said he was sure that “the launch of a Spanish-language Russian channel in Argentina will make Russia much more understandable and will promote the further rapprochement between the peoples of our countries.”

Argentinian President Cristina Kirchner said “We are really glad to welcome RT Spanish in Television Digital Terrestre (TDA), which is available all over the country.”

“Harsh information wars and attempts of some countries to monopolize the truth and use it in their own interests have become a sign of modern times,” Putin said stressing that “in these circumstances alternative sources of information are particularly in demand. RT is definitely one of them.”

RT Spanish has become the first foreign channel to broadcast within the framework of Argentine’s program of digital TV development – Television Digital Terrestre (TDA). The agreement to launch RT’s Spanish-language channel was reached during the talks between Putin and Kirchner, which took place in July this year.
