ROME (AP)--Italian police arrested three Moroccans - an imam and two of his aides - on Saturday to break up a militant cell that they said used a mosque in the central city of Perugia as a "terror school." The group ran courses on hand-to-hand combat and used propaganda films and documents downloaded from the Internet to teach how to prepare poisons and explosives and how to pilot a Boeing 747, anti-terrorism police in Rome said in a statement. Officers seized barrels of chemical substances, including acids, nitrates and ferrocyanide, that were found in the mosque''s cellar and may have been used to experiment during the courses, police officials said. The activity at the mosque on the outskirts of the Umbrian capital also included weapons training, as well as instructions on how to lay an ambush, reach combat zones safely and send encrypted messages. Police identified the imam as 41-year-old Korchi El Mostapha and his two aides as Mohamed El Jari, 47, and Driss Safika, 46. A fourth Moroccan was still being sought and was believed to be abroad, police said. The four are accused of conducting training with the aim of international terrorism, with the arrests coming after a two-year investigation. An additional 20 people who frequented Perugia''s Ponte Felcino mosque were placed under investigation for various charges, including violating Italy''s immigration laws, police said. In hours outside daily prayers, the small mosque doubled up as a training camp, the police statement said. The imam held courses, showed propaganda messages and made fiery sermons inciting a small group of disciples, some of them children, to join the Holy War. "The Perugia investigation has shown that in thePonte Felcino mosque there was a continued training for terrorist activity," said anti-terror police head Carlo De Stefano. "We have discovered and neutralized a real ''terror school'' which was part of a widespread terrorism system made up of small cells that act on their own." Police did not say if members of the group had taken part in terror attacks or were planning any. However they said in the statement that the cell had contacts with two Moroccans arrested some two years ago in Belgium who were members of the Moroccan Islamic Combat Group. The Islamic group, known by its French acronym, GICM, is believed tied to al-Qaida and has been linked to the 2004 Madrid bombings and 2003 attacks in Casablanca. (END)

Het voorbij weekend deed de politie van Perugia, in de Italiaanse regio Umbrië, een inval in de moskee van Ponte Falcino. Men ontdekte dat die moskee een opleidingscentrum voor terrroristen was. Nee, die zijn er dus niet alleen in Gaza, Pakistan of Irak, maar ook in ons eigen Europa. Naast islamitische propaganda vond men ook handleidingen voor het vervaardigen van giftgas en explosieven en instructies voor stadsguerrilla. Men vond ook een instructieprogramma voor het besturen van een Boeing 747. Het bleef niet bij documenten en computerprogramma’s. Naast de moskee, in de kelder van het huis van de imam, vond de politie grote voorraden chemicaliën in vaten, waaronder ook bloedloogzout of ferrocyanide. Op zichzelf is dat niet giftig, maar het wordt wel gebruikt voor de productie van het uiterst gevaarlijke blauwzuurgas.

De imam en twee medeplichtigen werden aangehouden. Een vierde verdachte zit waarschijnlijk in het buitenland. De daders zijn allemaal Marokkanen. Ze zijn vrijwel zeker lid van de Salafistische groep GICM, die ook betrokken was bij de bomaanslagen van 2003 in Casablanca en van 2004 in Madrid. De Salafisten werken nauw samen met Al Qaeda.

ETA laat twee bommen ontploffen langs Tourparcours
Langs de route in Spanje, waar de Tour de France vandaag passeert, zijn twee kleine bommen ontploft.
Kort voordien was er bij de autoriteiten een telefonisch dreigement binnengelopen van de Baskische afscheidingsbeweging ETA. Bij de explosies vielen geen gewonden. Het Tourpeloton merkte niks van de ontploffingen, want was al gepasseerd toen beide bommen afgingen. (belga/dm)

« TORNA vignale chì ghjè un bellu paese. » Employé pour évoquer quelque chose qui toujours recommence, le plus célèbre des dictons corses vient d'une époque où les attentats n'existaient pas. Et, pourtant, il résume très bien la situation. Après trente ans de lutte armée, de discussions avec les indépendantistes en menaces de « terroriser les terroristes », les bombes continuent de pleuvoir sur l'île. Si elles ont fait moins de bruit cette année, elles sont tombées avec la même régularité. De janvier �* mi-décembre, 229 dégradations ou destructions par substance explosive (ou tentatives) y ont été recensées, contre 168 en 2005. Plus nombreuses, les actions ont été moins spectaculaires qu'autrefois, quand elles réveillaient Bastia ou Ajaccio.

Surtout, elles ont visé les biens privés : 87 attentats (38 % des actes) ont endommagé ou réduit en gravats des résidences secondaires (51 en 2005). Le nombre d'actions contre des bâtiments publics, postes, perceptions, gendarmeries, véhicules, est demeuré le même : 40. Ces chiffres le disent mieux qu'un discours : les terroristes ont changé de cible. C'était l'État, ce sont surtout, aujourd'hui, les propriétaires terriens, essentiellement ceux originaires du continent ou de l'étranger. Cette violence fait écho �* un vrai problème de société, la pression foncière. L'immobilier flambe et l'on ne trouve plus �* se loger dans l'île. L'offre étant d'autant plus faible que nombre de biens sont gelés dans l'indivision, l'Assemblée territoriale a entériné cette année la création d'une agence foncière qui établira des titres de propriétés.

Luttes intestines

L'initiative a été très vivement critiquée par les nationalistes, qui ont fait de l'accession �* la propriété par les Corses leur priorité. Avantage du sujet, il fédère, même au-del�* des membres d'une famille très divisée. Deux ans après la création d'Unione naziunale, dans la perspective des élections territoriales, force est de constater que cela n'a d'union que le nom. Dernier exemple en date, une conférence de presse de Corsica nazione, peu après un colloque du PNC (Partitu di a nazione corsa) - deux formations unies sous la bannière « Unione » �* l'Assemblée - pour dire que « la situation actuelle de la Corse nécessite une approche autre que celle développée par le PNC ». Drôle de façon de saluer les idées de ses alliés, surtout lorsqu'elle est assortie d'un appel �* « l'union stratégique » et d'une réaffirmation de la nécessité de la lutte armée... �* laquelle le PNC est opposé.

Ces luttes intestines, les clandestins les vivent aussi. Depuis l'émergence du FLNC du 22 octobre en 2004, qui conteste l'hégémonie du FLNC-Union des combattants, c'est �* qui posera le plus de charges et incarnera le mieux les « préceptes » du premier FLNC. Pour autant, pour les terroristes, 2006 restera l'année du cafouillage. Celles des bombes qui n'explosent pas pour cause de dispositifs défectueux ou qui se trompent de cible, avec « excuses » du FLNC par communiqué interposé ; celle des bombes qui tuent les propriétaires des biens visés, comme ce patron de discothèque terrassé par une crise cardiaque après avoir constaté les dégâts, ou ceux qui les posent.

Trois militants du FLNC du 22 octobre ont ainsi péri cette année �* cause des bombes qu'ils transportaient, soit autant qu'en trente ans de lutte armée. Le 22 janvier, Alexandre Vincenti, 24 ans, est mort dans l'explosion de sa charge devant la perception d'Aix-en-Provence. Mi-août, Antoine Schinto, 44 ans, et Stéphane Amati, 35 ans, ont perdu la vie dans l'explosion des bombes qu'ils destinaient aux hélicoptères bombardiers d'eau basés près de Corte. La certitude des enquêteurs que cette action n'était pas politique mais relevait de la vengeance commerciale, le fait que dans les deux cas les cadavres des hommes aient été abandonnés par leurs complices, donne une idée du niveau de délitement atteint par la clandestinité. Un niveau qui n'est malheureusement pas proportionnel �* son pouvoir de nuisance.

Dat is waar. Ik herinner me goed dat na de grote aanslag in Madrid de ETA woedend was omdat ze eerst als de dader werd aangewezen. Ze schreef een repliek waarin opgeroepen werd de 'beesten' die deze aanslag pleegden op te jagen en af te maken. Dat is toch een opvallend antwoord van een organisatie die hetzelfde deed maar dan op veel kleinere schaal.

Police arrested the imam of the mosque, Mostapha El Korchi, and two other Moroccan assistants on Saturday.

Among the chemicals seized were fertilisers, household chemicals, an anti-rust acid, a laxative and sleep medicine which police said could be mixed to make bombs.

They also seized films and computer files they said were used for combat training. Police said El Korchi had downloaded bomb-making manuals.

Maps with several northern cities including Milan circled were seized along with several photos of El Korchi arriving at Rome's Fiumicino Airport and maps showing aqueducts in the region around Perugia, Umbria.

Worshippers at the Perugia mosque have called the accusations against their imam "absurd" and voiced confidence he will eventually be cleared.

U maakt zichzelf belachelijk met die onzin. De door u vermelde terreur is lokaal en niet wereldwijd en is dus peanuts vergeleken met de globale moslimterreur die veel wreder, omvangrijker en bovendien niet verklaarbaar vanuit onderdrukking: het is puur islamimperialisme.
