![]() Hello.
I want to imigrate to Belgium soon (because my father is native Belgian). So I need to speak Vlaanderen taal. Maybe it's good idea to study a bit BEFORE arriving to Belgium? Maybe there's places on the web where I can study not "Holland" but "Belgium" type of Dutch??? Since in Russia here I can only find sources to study Nederlanden taal, but not a Vlaanderen one. A. M. -- icq 472455552 I still have 50 Gmail invites so feel free to ask! ....running Windows XP Professional (Russian) /freeware/... |

You are better of learning French, as that is a world language, that will serve you better in many countries around the world. For questions about Belgian culture soc.culture.belgium may also be an interesting source. As you correctly pointed out, Flemish is a dialect of Dutch, which means that the Dutch and the Flemish even have troubles understanding each other: their television series are subtitled ! So the actual region in which you can use Flemish is, very, very small, even smaller than you would think. |

Yes - that's only Belgium - nothing more. So Flemish can be called "Belgian" language since it's not used outside Beglium. > Possible for the first time English may be OK? Since you all seems to speak English in Belgium because instead of learning language of the other 1/2 of Belgium you prefer to study English (or e. g. Esperanto) - to understand ALL world, - true? > Or probably lerne Deutsch? Warum nicht? P. S. I also thought that have made an error by posting in be.politics but soc.culture.belgium appeared to be... frankophone one! :( |

By the way the french spoken in Belgium is also a dialect, just look at the smiles on the French people when a Walloon is speaking what he thinks is French. The Dutch you can learn on the net is understood by the Flemish people, some words have different prononciaton but it's not a real problem. For real information about Belgium and centrainly Flanders, it's better to look on the net then reading a forum dominated by the french speaking people in Belgium. >As you correctly pointed out, Flemish is a dialect of Dutch, which means >that the Dutch and the Flemish even have troubles understanding each other: >their television series are subtitled ! >So the actual region in which you can use Flemish is, very, very small, even >smaller than you would think. > |
